MULTIPLE DIESTOCK.
Application filed March 24, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DURWARD B. Icon, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Lakewood, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Multiple Diestocks, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The objects of the invention are to provide a compact form of multiple die stock in which a hollow skeleton support is employed which is separated into two or more parts, upon a plane at right angles to the axis, and which is provided with a multiple number of die seats on its exterior periphery arranged about the common axis. Guide members outwardly spaced from the said die seats are attached thereto. Dies varying in size are secured upon the outer sides of the die seats and the guide members correspond respectively therewith in size.
The skeletondie stock is formed in equal portions attached together for convenience in manufacture and is light in weight and as compact in form as the size of the dies will permit. The invention is hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 2 on the central parting line.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the die stock.
In these views, the skeleton is shown divided on a plane at right angles to the axis, into two equal portions, A and B. The skeleton comprises a multiple number of transverse angle shaped members C, C, upon which the dies D, D, are seated, and the end members E, E, integral with said angle shaped members. In the end members, the handles F, F, are inserted upon the axial line of the die stock. The dies rest upon the outer sides of the seats or flanges G. G, which extend inwardly from the angle shaped members, which connect the end members E, E, and are retained by means of the narrow flanges, G, G, above them. Guide sleeves J, J, are supported in alinement with their respective dies upon said angle members 0 and end members E, in spaced relation to said dies D.
The guide members are preferably formed in portions corresponding with the portions of the skeleton, or may be detachably secured thereto if desired.
The plane of division of the skeleton die stock is shown at right angles to the axis since this method of construction makes it easier to insert the dies, the divided seats and retaining flanges being jointly formed in the meeting edges of said body portions.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a multiple die stock, the combination of a skeleton body separated into two portions upon a plane at right angles to the axis, a multiple number of spaced dies. carried upon the united edges of said skeleton body about the axis thereof, a corresponding number of divided guide sleeves in contact with each other, and axially attached handles for said body.
2. In a multiple die stock, a skeleton body separated into two portions on a plane at right angles to its axis, said body comprising end portions and spaced connecting members, the plane of division being across said connecting members, dies mounted upon the outer faces of said connecting members, divided guide sleeves and supporting means therefor secured to the outer surface of said body and handles axially attached to said end members.
3. In a multiple die stock, a skeleton body formed in two portions separated upon a plane at right angles to its axis, said body having divided dies seats formed externally and jointly upon its contacting edges, retaining flanges for said dies between which and said seats said dies are slidingly movable, means for attaching said body portions together and guide members elevated above said dies, and means for attaching the same to said body portions.
4:. In a multiple die stock the combination with a divided body, having a multiple number of divided die seats formed upon the exterior edges of the adgoining portions, retaining means for the ice thereon, di-
vided guide sleeves elevated above said divided die seats and means for attaching said guide sleeves to the divided die seats and axially attached handles.
5 5. In a multiple die stock, a divided skeleton body, means for securing the parts of said body together, die seats and die retaining flanges on both said body portions on which said dies are slidably insertible and 10 means for securing said body parts together.
6. In a multiple die stock, the combination with a hollow body formed into two members secured together, divided die seats and divided guide sleeves carried jointly between the separate body portions and 15 bolts for securing the two portions together.
