UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RENE HANRIOT, OF NEUILLY-SUESEINE, AlN'D FERNAND GRATIEUX, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNORS T0 SOCIETE It. HANRIOT ET 0113., OF BILLANCOURT,
FRANCE.
AEROIPLANE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 5, 1919.
Application filed November 23, 1917. Serial No. 203,552.
To all whom it may concern:
A Be it known that we, REM: HANRIOT, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at 32 Avenue du Roule, Neuilly-sur-Seine, in the De artment of Seine, France, and FER- NAND RATIEUX, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at 14 Rue Oberkampf, Paris, in the Department of Seine, France, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Aeroplanes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to the s ecial construction of a metal piece forming the rear end of the fuselage for aeroplanes. According to this invention the four girders of the fuselage are united at their rear ends by means of a steel part adapted to serve at the same time for the support of the steering rudder and of the landing mechanism. By reason of this triple function, this part must be constructed in a special manner so that it may possess maximum strength.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a view in elevation.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view.
In these drawings the metallic part is shown as composed essentially of a vertical steel tube a bearing four tubes marked respectively b b--:C C and forming prolongations of the upper and the lower wooden side girders M of the fuselage, which girders fit at their ends into sockets d carried by the said tubes b-c.
The metal part which is firmly held against the fuselage by aid of braces 6 formed of piano wire, is constructed as shown of two vertical tubes ff which connect respectively the tubes b--a placed on the same side of the axial vertical plane, by means of a horizontal tube 9 connectin the ends of the two upper tubes bd an by four sloping tubes lt-k-i-z' connecting the middle of the tube a to the four junctions of the tubes ff with the tubes bb and 0-0.
The vertical tube a is provided with two guide-collars jy' devised to receive the articulation of the steering rudder. At the lower end of the vertical tube a is fixed a holder to which is articulated the landing mechanism.
What We claim is:
A rear-end closure for aeroplane comprising the rudder sternpost, the landing shoes support and the support of the fuselage girders consisting in the combination of a vertical stern tube, two pairs of horizontal tubes connected to said stern tube, sockets on said tubes adapted to receive the ends of the fuselage girders, a pair of vertical tubes adapted to connect vertically the upper horizontal tubes to the lower horizontal tubes, a horizontal tube connecting together the upper tube sockets at the insertion of the girders of the fuselage, and a plurality of inclined tubes each attached at one end to the vertical stern tube and at their other end to the end of one of the horizontal tubes.
In testimony whereof we sign our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
