IMPROVEMENT IN SOFA-BEDSTEADS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. TAUCHERT,
of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Extension Lounges, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My invention relates to the method of attachment of the sliding part of the lounge to the stationary part; and consists in the provision of grooved slides upon the stationary frame and swi ngin g link upon the sliding part, by which the sliding part is properly guided over the stationary frame when closing up, and stopped when fully extended.
Description of the Accompanying Drawing. Figure 1 is a perspective View of an extension lounge embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a section through the slides, link, and parts of the frames, showing the position of the link when the lounge is extended. Fig. 3 is a simi- -lar section of the slide-link and parts of the frame when the lounge is being closed. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the link and portions of the slide and sliding frame.
General Description.
the lounge is closed up. The inner ends of the bars D, when the lounge is extended, drop onto the top face of the legs a, and in this position the mattress of the frame B is in the same horizontal plane as the mattress of the frame A, so as to make a level bed. Each of the slides O is constructed with a T-shaped groove, 0, into which the T-ended link E fits, as shown. The links E, of which there are twoone at each end are of the shape clearly exhibited in Fig. 4, having trunnions e to connect (so as to admit of swiveling) with the projecting cars a of the bars D, and rounded projections e which fit the wide part of the T-headed grooves in the slides 0. When the lounge is extended the link is stopped by the closed end a of the wide part of the groove 0 and swings down into the position shown in Fig. 2, the part B then resting upon leg a. When it is desired to close up the lounge the part B is raised so that the link is swung up, and the part B can then slide over the top of slides O, the projections e moving along the grooves of the slides.
Claim. The combination of stationary frame A,
grooved slides O, sliding and swinging links E e e, and sliding and swinging frame B, when the links are hinged to the frame B at one end and fitted to slide Within the grooved slides O of the frame A, substantially as and for the purpose described.
