Application filed December 22, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AnoLr Tt'isoHnR, Jr., a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Zurich, Hardturmstrasse 10-1, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Pipe-french with a Pivo-ted J aw and Screw Adjustment; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear, full, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a pipe-wrench with a pivoted jaw and screw adjustment. The pivot of said wrench around which the jaw is adapted to swing and which serves at the same time as a nut for the threaded spindle of the wrench can be resiliently displaced by lateral pressure. The nut part contains an oval bore which allows the nut to be moved out of engagement with the threads 01": the handle-bar by means of said lateral pressure.
A mode of carrying this invention into effect is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side view of the pipe wrench.
Fig. 2 is a section along line A-B of Fig. 1.
Figs. 3 and 4 show in sections along line CD of Fig. 2 two different positions of the pivot.
1 denotes the handle-bar of the wrench and 2 the jaw. The latter carries in a kind of casing 3 a plug 4% serving as a pivot for the jaw 2. The pivot 4 is displaceable in an axial direction and is provided with a transverse bore 5 of oval section. which is fitted on one side with inside threads 6. The handle-bar passes through said oval bore 5, thus enabling the pivot to act as a nut for the A spring 7 is arranged to press continuously the threaded part 6 into engagement with the threads on the handle-bar 1. I claim:
1. An adjustable pipe-wrench, comprising a threaded handle-bar, a pivoted jaw, and a pivot carried in the lower part of said jaw and serving as a nut for the threads of the handle bar, said pivot being displaceable in a lateral direction to allow the aw to be quickly adjusted relatively to the handle-bar without turning the latter.
2. An adjustable pipe-wrench, comprising a threaded handle-bar, a pivoted jaw, and a pivot carried in the lower part of said jaw, said pivot being provided with an oval bore through which the handle-bar passes, one side of said oval bore being fitted with threads which are normally in engagement with the threads of the handle-bar and which can be moved out of engagement by an axial pressure on the pivot to allow the jaw to be quickly adjusted relatively to the handle-bar without turning the latter.
3. An adjustable pipe-wrench, comprising a threaded handle-bar, a pivoted jaw, a pivot carried in the lower part of said jaw, said pivot being provided with an oval bore through which the handle-bar passes, one side of said oval bore being fitted with threads, a spring for normally holding said threads in engagement with the threads of the handle-bar, said pivot adapted to be moved out of engagement by an axial pressure thereon to allow the jaw to be quickly adjusted relatively to the handle-bar without turning the latter.
