I I, of a modified form of block for binding Be it known thatL-Tnnormnnpnram, len hwlse. contractor, a British subject, -res1d1n .vention, andhaving a semi-detached column 2 and '3. 4 I
I Fig. 13 is a perspective view of a port10n of a pillar constructed with'the blocks of'and' onthe opposite surfacea correspond-' ig. 12 is a perspective view of a portionof.the wall constructed according to the ining'U-shaped groove. 3. This block 1 is I adapted for instance to 'form' the crowning.
block of a column as indicated' in Figs. 1 and 12. The block 4 disclosed in Fig. 3, which consists of a Z projection'fi on one side thereof and a correspondinggroove 6 shaped projection 8, and on its opposite side a corresponding L shaped groove, the said block.being ada ted to be used in conjunction withthe b ocks 1 and 4, This block 7-may also be used as a corner blockas disclosed in Figs. 6 and 70f the drawings.
Fig. 6 of the drawings represents a wall 1 of two block thickness having corner blocks 7 and a plurality of blocks 9 which are l'ongitudinally disposed in relation to the walls,
each of said blocks being provided on one jection 10, the ofi,
side thereof with a central longitudinal robeing provided wi a groove corresponding with said projection, .10. -Natura1ly when these blocks are placed over one another in the usualway, the blocks will interlock, but in order to provide bracing and locking means between the two thicknesses of blocks, a cross bindingvblock '11. is 'provided and 'laid astride the wall as'disclosed in Fig. 6, said block being provided with two projections 12 across one face thereof which are ada ted to form a continuation of the projections 1 0 of the blocks 9, and on the oppoosite side of said b ock site side of said block 11. two grooves .13.
corresponding to said projections 12 are pro- 15 on one side thereof, and on the opposite side is provided a central longitudinal oove 16 which is adapted to engage the pro ection 10 on the adjacent block 9.
In order to come back to the former construction that is the block 9, a block 17 is employed having two cross grooves 18 on one side thereof, which are adapted f0 engage the cross projections 15 of the'blocks 14, and havin a longitudinal central PIO]6(J- tion 19 provi ed on its opposite side which is adapted to register w1th the projection 10 of the blocks 9.
When the blocks 14 are used, as illustrated in Fig. 7, the corner block 20 is preferably'nsed, this block 20 having ,on one side thereofan 'L-shaped projection 21 which is adapted to register at oneend thereof with the projection 10 of the block 9 and havin at a suitable distance from said L- shape projection 21 a cross projection '22. On the opposite side of said block corresponding to said projection 21 is an L roove 23, and a cross groove 24 corresponding to said projection 22.
Should it be found convenient. to use the blocks 9 above the said blocks 14: the blocks 17 are first placed over the blocks 14, and
the corner block 7 will be arranged on top of said block 20.
It will readilybe seen from the foregoing description that a two-block thickness wall can be easily braced by employing this means of construction and that each la er of bricks or blocks can be bound toget er to form a most solid construction.
No claim is herein made for the blocks 9 as these blocks have been used for years, but the object of this invention is principally to rovide a binding block which, when used in conjunction with the blocks 9, will brace the wall longitudinally and laterally.
What I claim as my invention is:
A will comprismg a plurality of superposed .layers of horizontally-laid blocks or bricks arranged longitudinally of the'wall and having their top and bottom faces formed with mating locking ribs andand ribs onthe lon itudinal bricks directl above and below t em to brace the "wal laterally and which respectively aline with the longitudinal moves and ribs on the abutting longitudinal bricks in the same layer or layers to form continuations therel of and a plurality of lon itudinal bricks included in certain of said ayers andvhaving on one face at least one transverselydisposed locking element and on the opposite face a longitudinal locking element to interfitnwith the longitudinal interlocking elements and crossrinterlocking elements on the first-named longitudinal bricks and on the cross-bricks, the locking element on one face of each second-named longitudinal brick being in the form of a rib or projection, and that on the opposite face being in the form of a groove; substantially as described.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 16th day of April, 1919.
