To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, (inoncn W. WINDISCH, a citizen of the l nited States, residing at Detroit, county of \Vayne, State of Michigan. have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Temporary Binders, and declare the following to be a full,clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to temporary binders and its object is a binder adapted to hold a number of magazines, catalogues, or other publications made of folded sheets, the publications being removably held in position within the binder. Another object of the invention is a temporary binder which may be cheaply made and which is easily operated. These and other objects and the several novel features of the invention in its preferred form are hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a temporary binder with a magazine secured therein.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged section of the temporary binder taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.

The binder consists preferably of a fiexible cover 1 and a metal strip 2 secured to the center thereof by the rivets 3. The

' metal strip 2 has a raised or bored portion 7 near the center thereof and also has a reversely bent portion 4 spaced from the body at each end thereof and having a slot 5 therein. A number of rods 6 preferably made of spring wire are removably mounted within the slots between the end portions4, it being understood that the portion 4 extends behind the slot forming a stop for the ends of the rods 6 and holding the rods from longitudinal displacement. Any number of rods 6 may be placed in the slots 5 within the capacity thereof.

For instance with magazines which issue monthly, 12 rods would be used, one rod being used for each magazine, and thus the 12 monthly issues of the magazine for one year could be placed in the binder.

The metal strip 2, as before stated, is secured to the cover 1 by the rivets 3 at each end thereof and the center portion of the strip 2 is raised or bowed to form a spring to hold the publications in place on the rods.

To place the publications in the binder one of the rods 6 is passed between the leaves thereof at about the center and the ends of the rods 6 are then set into the slots 5 in the ends 4. When the magazines or publications are in place on the rods they are yieldably held within the binder by the metal strip 2 which has a raised or bowed portion at about the center thereof and which holds the publications tightly against the rods, as is shown more particularly in dotted lines in Fig. 2. To remove .the publications from the binder one of the rods 6 which hold the publications in place may be sprung to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 at which time one of the ends can be disengaged from one of the slots whereupon the other end can be easily removed from its corresponding slot' and the rod withdrawn from the publication.

To insert the publications or catalogues back into the binder the rod is placed between the leaves thereof and one end is inserted into one slot and the rod is then sprung until it is suflicientl foreshorte ed to pass into the other slot. he function of the slot 5 is to allow the rods 6 to be placed in different positions and at different distances apart therein so that publications of greater or less thickness may be secured side by side and when the rods and publications are in place they will be bound tightly together. p

The novel features of this invention exist in the slot 5 which allows publications of different thickness to be adjusted therein and in the raised or bowed portion of the strip 2 which holds the publications tightly v in place on the rods 6.

From the foregoing description it becomes evident thatthe device is of a simple nature and is very eflicient in operation.

Having thus briefly described my invention, its utility and mode of operation, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- 1. In a magazine binder, a cover member, a flexible metal strip secured thereto about which the cover member is foldable, said strip having upwardly and reversely bent terminal portions, the inner portion of which is provided with an elongated slot lying parallel with the plane of the said strip, a plurality of spring metal rods loosely p0- sitionable in the slots, the strip having a bowed portion intermediate the said ends lying adjacent the rods to engage against the papers or magazines carried thereon.

2. In a magazine binder, a flexible cover member, a spring metal plate extending across the cover member at about the center thereof, said plate having upwardly and re versely bent portions, the inner terminal portions of which are each provided with an elongated slot, a plurality of spring metal rods loosely mounted in the slots, the metal plate having a bowed portion intermediate the ends and being attached to the cover member adjacent the said ends.

3. In a magazine binder, a cover member, a thin spring metal strip secured thereto adjacent the ends of the strip, the said strip having a central bowed portion and end portions extending upwardly on the bowed side, a plurality of spring metal rods loosely mounted in the said end portions, the rods holding the magazines or papers carried thereby yieldably in contact with the said bowed portion.
