CURTAIN FITTING.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 26. 1919.
Patnted May 4, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNEST LODGE WILSON, OF PRESTON, ENGLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE HALF TO HAROLD GEORGE WILSON, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
CURTAIN-FITTING;
Specficaton of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 26, 1919. Serial No. 326,&51.
.L 0 all wwm it mau cmwern:
Be it known that L ERNEST Lonon `WIL- soN a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Preston, Lancashire, England, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Curtan-Fittings, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain runners of the type comprising a roller adapted to run on a fiat strip race and a frame on which the roller is pivoted and from which the curtain is Suspended.
The object of the invention is to provide a runner which can be manutactured very economically and which will run freely on the race even around sharp curves without bindin According to the nvention the frame ot' the runner is formed of wire which at the upper end passes freely through a roller and at the upper and lower ends is bent V suitably on 'each side, so that when the 'rame is canted it makes contact with the race, and avoids bindng of the roller which is thereby held in a central position.
In the accompanying drawings Figures l to 3 are side elevations illustrating three forms of runner 'according to the invention fitted with flanged rollers.
Figs. 4; and 5 are respectively a front elevation and plan of part of a flat strip race with runners thereon similar to Fig. 1.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a similar 'form ot" runner to that shown in Fig. i but fitted with a ball roller.
Similar reference numerals represent corresponding parts in all the figures.
In one mode of carrying out the invention the wire fralne 1 is bent so as to present four rounded points, 2, 3, l, and 5 toward the sides of the'race 6, two near the upper part and two near the lower part. Each adjacent pair ot points are at a less distance apart than the width of the flangcd roller 7 between the flanges, so that it the curtain be pulled carelessly so as to cant the runner, one or other of the rounded points touchcs the side of the race and prevents the fianges touching the race and as also the roller of less width over the tlanges than the space between the adjacent parts 8, 9, the rame cannot be pulled the flangcs e'F t e roller suiiciently to bind the saree.
curved parts of the race. v
pending said trane The roller is thus free at all times even on Patented May 4, 1920.
The lower end 10 of the franie is preferably bent to a V shape or otherwise adapted to, hold a curtain ring 11 or hook. The
clearance 12 between the ring ll and lower edge of the track should be less than the depth of the fianges of the rollers to prevent the runner being raised sufliciently to permit of the roller being removed 'from the race.
Similarly the point 3 of the frame l of th runner should be suiiiciently below the level of the upper edge of the race to prevent the runner being lifted or jerked off laterally of the race, the runner being placed on the race from the end thereof.
race at these ends.
ported as usual by screws lt passing through.
The races may be supthe races and fitted with distance sleeves 15. In the form of runner shown in Fig. 6 :i
ball-roller 7 is shown.
The wire frame is similar to that before described with reference to Fig'. 1, and by it the ball-roller is held free in a'central position in the race (5 irrespective of canting of the trame.
I claime A curtain runner of the type reterred to and comprising' a rame formed of wire, a roller treely mounted on the upper part of said rame 'for the purpose of freely suson the edge ol? a flat strip race said frane at its upper and lower parts being bent to term pairs of opposed rounded points, the points of each pair heing a less the aforesaid distance apart then the width of roller, whercby they engage with the sides oil"? the race when the runner is canted, substantially as and tor the purpose hereinbefore set torth.
'In testimony whereot I have signed my two subscribing' witnesses.
i name to'this specification' in the presence of
