Description

A., WALKER.
Harness Buckie.
N`o 133,904. Patented necmonz.
AMAPHDTO-LITHDGRAFH/C C0.NY (0SEUHNE'S PROCESS) `UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.-
ALEEED wALEEE, CE NEw HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-BUCKLES.`
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,904,' dated December 10, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED WALKER, of New Haven, in the county oi' New Haven and State oi' Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Harness-Buckles and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon,
. to be a full, clear, and exact description of the the arrangement of, a plate 'upon the tracestrap between the said strap and the trace, and secured to the trace-strap, and provided `with an outward projecting pin or pins to enter corresponding` perforations in the trace,
combined with a band which surrounds the strap and trace, and which, when passed over to the point where the said trace is fixed, will secure the trace upon the pins, or removed therefrom will allow the detachment of the trace.
A is a plate of thin metal constructed with anges B upon each side projecting up and down. The width of the said plate between the said flan ges corresponds to the width ofthe trace. Upon the plate are arranged one or more projecting studs, a.. The plate thus constructed is secured to a strap, C, as seen in Figs. 2 and 3, and the trace or adjusting strap D is perforated, as at corresponding to the studs a on the plate. The strap D set down onto the said studs, as denoted in Fig. 2, a slide or band, E, is passed over the plate and straps, as denoted in Figs. 2 and 4, inclosing all at that point, and thus preventing the strap D from being raised or removed from the studs.
WVhen it is desired to readjust the strap, remove the band E by sliding it back to the position denoted in Fig. 3; then the strap D may be raised from the studs, readj usted, and again set down upon the studs and the slide E returned to secure the parts in position.
To prevent the accidental removal of the band, which may in some cases be desirable, I arrange a stud, f, which is set into the plate on a spring to project outward, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2, but so as to be depressed to permit theV slide to be removed; but this is not essential as it may be made without this stud, as seen in Fig. 4.
Ordinarily, for a trace-buckle loops are necessary for the attachment of the back and other straps; I therefore form these loops F G H upon the plate, as seen in. Fig. 5.
By this construction the buckle is formed complete in one piece of metal, no mechanism being required to secure the strap as a part of the connection of the plate, the band E accomplishing this purpose, which may be made from leather or other suitable material by the harness-maker or others using the buckle.
I claim as my invention- The plate A, constructed to be applied between the two parts or straps C D, and provided with one or more studs, a., and combined with the slide E, substantially as set'forth.
ALFRED WALKER.
