To all whom t may concern:
Be it known thatI, VVILBUR M. GARRETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lookeba, in the county of Caddo and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Kar-Header, of which the folloW- Within the province of the disclosure to im-v prove generally and enhance the Autility of devices of that classI to Which the present` invention appertains. It is also to be understood that slight changes may be made Within the scope of what is claimed Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference the numeral 1 designates a frame, having corner posts 2, top and bottoni side rails 3 and 4 respectively and intermediate longitudinal beams 5 and 6.
A shaft 7 mounted for rotation at vone side of the frame, in bearings carried by the end posts 2, is provided with a drive pulley 8, a balance wheel 9 and a belt Wheel 10 being mounted on'the shaft outside the frame. At the opposite end of the shaft 7 a cutting knife 11is secured to the said shaft, the knife comprising a circular disk provided with a series of arcuate cutting edges 12 extending about the periphery lof the disk. A portion of the disk-11 travels between a pair of concavo-convex disks 13, which are secured to a shaft 14, mounted for rotation at the opposite side of the frame from the shaft 7, the disks being secured to the shaft with their concave faces adjacent and their outer edges meeting.
The disk 11 is inserted between the edges of the disks 13, said edges being sharpened and in contact with the disk 11, an effective cutting device being thus formed. Frictional engagement of the contacting portions of the driven disk 11 with the disks 13 to cause the disks 13 to rotate.
The `cutting device is located at one end of the frame land ya housing 15 secured to the frame covers the outer edge of the cutter 11 to prevent persons coming in contact therewith, the other member 13 of the cutting device being protected by a guard 16 and a feeding table 17, which extends laterally from one of the top rails 3 and practically shields the cutter. A stand 18 is erected at one side of the frame below the feeding table on which are operator stands to feed bundles of material to the cutting knives.
An open end hopper 19 formed by side plates 2O secured to the top rails 3, guides the stalk portion of the corn, after the heads are severed, to a belt conveyer 21 located in the bottom of the hopper. The conveyer 21 is mounted at one end on an idle shaft 22 having bearings on the beam 5 and at the other end on a driven shaft 23.
Material is delivered from the conveyer 21 on a second conveyer 24 which is adapted to carry the same to a stack or other place of storage. The conveyer 24 is mounted at one end on an idle roller 25 and at the other on a driven roller 26.
A conveyer 27 is mounted at the opposite end of the frame 1 from that at which the conveyer 24 is mounted and carries the head portion of the corn to` a point of storage. The conveyer is mounted on rollers 28 and 29, the latter being the driven roll.
The conveyers 24 and 27 are mounted in troughs 30, the same being supported at their end adjacent the frame 1 by means of arms 31 secured to the trough and hav ing bifurcated ends 32 which are adapted to engage shafts 33 and 34 on Which the rollers 26 and 29 are secured. The outer end of the trough 30 is supported by a jack 35 which may be moved toward the frame l along the trough to elevate the same as needed.
A shaft 3G mounted for rotation in bearings secured to the frame 1 is provided With a pulley 37. A belt 38 is trained over the pulleys .10 and 37 to impart motion from the shaft 7 to the shaft 3G. Beveled pinions 39 are fixed to the shaft 36 and mesh with beveled gears 40 secured to the shafts 33 and 34.
The shafts23 and 33 arei, provided with pulleys 41 and 42 respectively and a belt`2f3 imparts motion from the shaft 33 to drive the conveyer 21, so that when power is applied to the -belt wheel 8, the entire mechanism is driven through their respective driving elements. The cutter 11 is rotated at high speed and thereby rotates the cutter 13 severing the heads from grain fed to the machine and carrying the separated parts in opposite directions'to be stacked or other- Wise disposed of.
In operation, power is applied to the shaft 7 from any suitable source through the belt pulley 8, which causes the cutting disks 11 and 13 to rotate, an operator standing on the platform 13 feeds the grain from the table 17 to the cutting knives. lThe stalks fall on the rotating knives near the head of the grain so that the more valuable head portion is severed from the stalk, close to the head and may be taken care of separately from the stalk.
The carrier 27 being driven from the shaft 34, with its top run moving away from the cutting knives conveys the heads away from the machine to be stacked, stored or otherwise disposed of. The stalks drop on the conveyer 21 which is driven from the shaft 23 through the belt 13. rIhe top run of the conveyer 21 moves toward the rear of the machine carrying the stalk portion and depositing the same on the conveyer 24 which is driven by the shaft 33, the shaft 33 receiving its motionv from the shaft 36 through the gears 39 and 40 located at that end of the frame remote from the cutting knives, the stalks are thereby carried to a convenient point and deposited on a stack.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:-
1. In a device of the class described, a frame, a cutter, a conveyer mounted beneath the cutter for receiving material therefrom, a second conveyer onto which the first mentioned conveyer discharges and a third conveyer located adjacent the cutter and disposed opposite the first mentioned conveyer, the second and third mentioned conveyers being pivotally and detachably connected to the frame.
2. In a device of the class described, a frame, a cutter comprising a cutting disk rotatably mounted and a pair of concaveconvex disks between which the first mentioned disk rotates, a conveyer mounted for rdtation beneath the cutter and means for simultaneously rotating the cutter and conveyer.
3. In a device of the class described, a
-frame having a hopper, a cutter mounted for operation transversely of the hopper at one end thereof, a conveyer mounted in the bottom of the hopper and adapted to remove material from the cutter, a second conveyer for receiving material from the first mentioned conveyer, a third conveyer located adjacent the cutter on the side thereof opposite the first mentioned conveyer, and means for operating the first and third mentioned conveyers in opposite directions away from the cutter. s
4. In a device of the class described, a frame, a cutter comprising a rotatable disk having arcuate cutting teeth said teeth passing between and in contact with a pair of concavo-convex disks, a conveyer mounted on the frame for moving material from the cutter, a second conveyer on which the first mentioned conveyer discharges, means for driving the said conveyers in the same direction, a third conveyer on the opposite side of the cutter from the first mentioned conveyer and means for driving thethird conveyer in a direction opposite tothat of the first mentioned conveyers.
5. In a device of the class described, a frame having an open end hopper, a cutter mounted transversely of the hopper, said cutter' comprising a disk mounted for rotation and having arcuate cutting teeth and a pair of concave-convex disks, also mounted for rotation, the teeth of the first mentioned disk moving between and in contact with the meeting edges of the second mentioned disks and means for conveying material from the cutter in opposite directions therefrom.
