ADJUSTABLE FOOTREST.

Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that a, WALTER E. Kmesronn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weatherford, in the county of Parker and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Footrests, of which the following is a specification.

This invention comprehends the provision of an adjustable foot rest the rest proper being mounted upon a base adapted to be socured to the floor or other suitable support in a manner whereby the rest can be quickly and easily adjusted to any desired position for the comfort of the user.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.

In the drawing forming part of this-speci fication like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of the rest constructed in accordance with my invention.

Referring to the drawiir base upon which the foot ie' ed. comprises spaced uprights 10 each carrving a foot or floor engaging element 11 w l secured to the floor of the support by inc-ans of the foot elements 12. The spaced rip-- rights 10 are connected together by means of a transverse shaft 14, the opp-1,. ite end of which projects through the enlarged extremities 15 of the uprights. These extremities 15 are of circular outline and the pe riphery of each is notched at 1? for the purpose to be presently described.

The foot rest proper indicated at 18 mounted for rotation between the corre sponding upper extremities of the arms 19 these arms being arranged in parallelism and having their opposite lower extremities mounted upon the shaft 14 in a manner whereby the arms 19 together with the foot rest can be swung to any desired angle for the comfort of the user. Suitable nuts 20 hold the arms 19 positioned upon the shaft 14. The inner side of each arm 19 is channeled as at 21, whilepivoted within each channel is a latch element 22 which projects beyond the lower end of the channel to en gage in one of the notches 17 of the uprights 10. The upper extremity of each latch element is slightly spaced from the rear wall of the channel and terminates to provide a finger engaging portion interposed between this extremity of the latch element and the r ar wall of the channel, is a spring 2% which exerts a pressure against the latch element to hold the latter positioned within the adjacent notch of the uprights 10. in practice, the base is fixed upon the floor or other support by means of the fastening ele ments 13. The latch elements are then moved from within the notches 17. and the arms 19 together with the foot rest proper indicated at 18 swung to a y desired angle with respect to the floor for the comfort 0 the user. When properly positioned, the latch elements are released and the spring 2% functions to move the latch el ment into ngageinent with the adjacent notches thereby holding the foot rest fixed relatively to the base in its adjusted position.

While I lave shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the details shown. inasmuch as such changes may be re sorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.

Having thus described my invention what i claim as new is A device of he class described compr ing spaced up ghts. means for conneclu said uprights. the upper ends of said up rights being notched. a pair of arms pivot ally mounted upon said uprights, a foot rest connecting said and supported thereby, each of said arms being channeled, and a spring pressed latch element pivoted within said channel and arranged to engage the said notches whereby the foot rest is held fixed relative to the uprights in any adjusted position.
