Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,731, dated December 10, 1872.V
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat we, JAMES H. WALKER, of Milwaukee, county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, and JOHN WALKER, of South Bend, county of St. Joseph, in the State of Indiana, have invented certain Improvements in Retorts, of which the following is a specification:
Nature and Object of the Invention.
Our invention is a retort for the manufae ture of gas, or for any other purpose, and is made With the front end angular instead of being made in the present form, and thus sev- ,l Figure 1 is a longitudinal perspective View,

General Description.
A is the body of the retort; B, `the front end and opening of the retort; C, holes, into which bolts enter to hold the mouth-piece; D,
the opening of the retort; E, the brick-work or retort-settin g. This rectangular part ofthe retort B is as far back on the retort as the brick setting, and may be made separate.l
