Description
R. DUPUY.
. STEAM TURBINE.
APPLICATION FILED DEC-711917.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RENE JULES DUPUY, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO COMPAGNIE GENERALE DELEC'IRICITE, OF PARIS, FRANCE, A CORPORATION OF FRANCE.
STEAM-TURBINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed December 7, 1917. Serial No. 205,969.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Rmvii J ULES DUPUY, of 7 Rue dAlleray, at Paris, Department of the Seine, France, citizen of the French Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Steam-Turbines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In my prior Patent No. 1,282,680, dated October 22, 1918, there is described an arrangement for protecting against corrosion, during the periods of stoppage, the interior parts of steam turbines and which consists of blowing-in by the aid of a blower to the interior of the turbine and in an opposite direction to the movement of the steam, air previously dried or warmed.
The arrangement which forms the subjectmatter of the present application is a small modification of that of the prior patent and shows how, in certain cases, the blower can be dispensed with and particularly when turbines or other machines are located in the same building and operate apparatus such as compressors, blowers, alternators, which already provide air under pressure and how the heating device can also be dispensed with when this air is at a suflicient temperature.
The drawing which accompanies the description shows by way of example, an application of the arrangement in the case or" turbo-alternators.
In the'drawing 1 and 2, represent groups of turbo-alternators; R and R the outlet pipes for hot air from each of the alternators; C the main collecting air trunk; A, and A air outlets extending from the main air trunk for the purpose of blowing air into the turbines; S and S valves communicating with the atmosphere, V and V steam inlet Valves, B a blower and E an air heater.
Several turbo-alternators 1 and 2, being installed in the same building, the hot-air outlets R and R from each of the alternators is placed in communication with the main air trunk C, from which extend the air inlets A and A for the purpose of blow ing air into the turbine.
Assuming that one of the groups, group 2 for example, is stopped, its inlet valve V, will be closed and the valve S communicating with the atmosphere will be opened; it is only necessary then to .close its valve on R, and open its valve on A, for hot air from the other machines to pass through the stopped turbine.
It will be readily understood that, in case all the machines are stopped, there can be added to the main trunk as indicated by a dotted line in the drawing an independent blower B with a heater E such as described in the principal patent.
I claim:
1. The combination with a series of air circulating machines, a series of turbines for operating the same, an air trunk, pipes leading from the air circulating machines to conduct hot air to said trunk, and pipes leading from the trunk to the turbines to selectively conduct hot air to the turbines.
2. The combination with a series of air circulating machines, of turbines for operating the same, a hot air trunk, valved hot air ducts extending from the air circulating machines to the trunk, and valved ducts extending from the trunk to the turbines to conduct the hot air from the trunks to the turbines selectively.
In testimony whereof I afiix my ignature in presence of two witnesses.
RENE JULES DUPUY.
