Description
holes, it is obvious that this reinforcing strip is of uniform strength from end to end; that is to say, it is uncut sclvage at both edges, and hence is ol maximum strength, it being very obvious that this strip has far greater resistance to tearing, and that the button-holes can withstaml far greater pull than would bc the case il the inner or lower edge of the reinforcing strip were notched or slit in the formation of the button-holes.
By having the buttoirholes formed in the two plies only, wholly outside of the reinforcing strip, not only is the most effective reinforcement obtained, but the button-holes are formed in the same number of plies or from the same thicknesses of the material from end to end, which is very desirable from a manufacturing standpoint.
Having described my invention, l claim:
1. A button-liole tape formed from l strip of material folded longitudinally to forni three plies, a reinforcing strip between two of the plies and located adjacent one edge of the tape, and a series of spared but* ton-holes formed in the inner and one outer ply of the tape wholly beyond the reinforeing strip.
2. A button-hole tape formed from a strip of material folded longitudinally to form three plies, a reinforcing strip located bctween two of the plies and extending lengthwise of the tape along one edge thereof't said two plies having a series of spaced buttonholes, and the third ply in which the buttonholes are not formed having its free edge portion extending beyond the other two plies to form an attaching section.
3. A button-hole tape formed. from a strip of material folded longitiidinallyY to 'form three plies, a series of spaced buttomholes formed in two of the plies only, a reinforcing strip located between said two plies and wholly between the folded edge forming the latter and the button-holes, said reinforcing strip and the two plies being secured togetlior by a line ol' stitching, and the three plies being secured together by a line of .stitchin g extending beneath the button-holes adjacent one edge of the tape and upwardly between the button-holes.
4. A button-ho1e tape formed from a strip of material folded longitudinally to form three plies, the free edge of one of which extends beyond the other two plies to form an attaching section, said other two plies having liuttoirholes formed therein, and a reinforcing strip between said last mentioned plies and located wholly between the upper ends of the buttonvholes and the adjaY cent edge of the tape. the three plies being fastened together by an undulating .line of stitching which passes below the button holes and upwardly toward the reinforced edge. forming between the first mentioned ply and the middle ply, open-topped pockets.
5. A button-hole tape formed from a. strip of material folded longitudinally to form three plies7 the middle ply including one margin of the strip, a reinforcing strip iuside the folded portion of the folded strip between the middle ply and one of the outer plies, and buttonholes formed wholly beyond the reinforcing strip in the two plies between which the reinforcing strip is lo` cated.
ln testimoni whereof l hereunto affix my signature.
