Description

B. MCBRIDIZ.
BAG HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED N0v.24, 1919.
1,336,530, Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
H62 sump UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BERT MCBRIDE, OF ADA, OHIO.
BAG-HOLDER.
Application filed November 24, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BERT MCBRIDE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ada, in thecounty of Hardin and the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the figures of reference marked thereon.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1, is a perspective view of a feed chute with a bag-holding device thereon embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical central section on line 22 Fig. 1, of a detail part of the device.
The numeral 1 designates a spout or feed chute to which the bag-holding means are secured. Secured to one side of said chute is a cleat 2, either of wood or metal and having the pins P. P. secured thereto and projecting upwardly therefrom. A similar cleat 2 with pins (not shown) is secured to the opposite side of the said chute.
The numeral 3 designates a vertical bar. preferably of metal, with a cross-bar attached to the lower end thereof, said crossbar 3* having holes therein near each end thereof of such size and in such position as to drop loosely over the pegs P and P. The vertical bar is held in place by two screws or bolts B and B with heads projecting over the edge, the said screws or bolts forming guides being set so as to permit a limited vertical movement of the bar between them. The upper end of the vertical bar is drawn around and bent outward from the body entering a hole in the handle (No. a). (It is to be understood that this description of the vertical bar and its attachments applies also to another similar bar on the opposite side of the body, not shown in the drawing.)
The numeral 4 designates the handle made (preferably) of metal, either wrought or cast so that one end projects from the body, the other two ends forking to either side of the body, to which it is attached as herein- Specifieation of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Serial No. 340,411.
after described, the essential purpose of the said handle being to support and operate the vertical bar (No. 3) with its attached crossbar upon which its action is that of a lever of the second class. At the two forked ends of the handle are holes through which the supporting rod or bar 6 extends, the handle being held to its supporting rod (fulcrum of the lever) by cotter pins.
No. 5 is a bumper, which may be of wood or other material, but preferably is of metal bent at right angles, bolted to the chute l at such position that the movement of the handle t is stopped when the cross-bar attached to the lower end of the vertical bar 3 has been raised to the top of the pegs P and P.
6 is a bar of metal (drawn or cast) round at each end, attached to the chute l by bolts or rivet-s and supporting the handle 4 in the manner already described, this part being the axis or fulcrum of the handle l.
The operation of the machine or device is as follows: The handle is lowered and the bag to be filled is hooked over the open mouth of the chute 1 upon the pegs P and P (and upon the two similar pegs on the opposite side of the body) the bag being placed over (above) the horizontal bar, through which the pegs have projected. )Vhen the bag is filled, the handle t is raised, thus lifting the horizontal bar which in turn lifts the bag clear of the steel pegs P and P and causes it to drop from the machine.
Having thus described my invention, what I desire to obtain and secure by Let ters Patent is A bag holder consisting of bars or cleats adapted to be rigidly secured to the opposite sides of a chute or spout. and provided with upwardly extending pins, a handle pivotally connected to said chute, dependent bars connected with said handle on opposite sides of said spout, guides for said dependent bars, a cross bar connected with each of said dependent bars, said cross bars having openings therein adapted to receive said pins, and means for limiting the movement of said handle.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature this 1st day of August, A. D. 1919.
BER-T MCBRIDE.
