Description

FRANK POLCHO, OF MELVIN, MICHIGAN.
PNEUMATIC PAINTBRUSH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, 1920.
Application filed February 21, 1917. Serial No. 150,096.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK PoLoHo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Melvin, in the county of Sanilac and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Paintbrushes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pneumatic paint brushes, and the object is to provide certain efficient and novel means for controlling the passage of paint through the handle and through the shank portion of the brush, to the bristles thereof.
A further object is to provide means for definitely and exactly controlling-the movement of the valve, and a still further obj eot is to provide adjustable resilient means for effecting the closing movement of the valve regardless of the consistency of the paint being used.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view of the brush partly in longitudinal section, showing the valve controlling means. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section on another plane.
The brush as a whole is designated 25, and the handle thereof is provided with a longitudinally extending tube 26 for conducting the paint under pressure. The bristles are secured within socket member 28, and the paint flows to said socket member and thence to the bristles through a connection 29 carried by member 28 and fitting within the end 30 of the tube 26. The tube last mentioned is provided with a rotary cut-ofl" member 31 extending transversely of the tube, and carrying at the outer end a disk 32 provided with teeth 33 extending partially around the circumference of the disk. These teeth are engaged by teeth 3 L on slide 35, the latter having a thumb member 36 to permit of its operation for controlling the supply of paint. Slide 35 is provided with a longitudinal slot 86 for receiving guide pins 37 secured to the shank member of the brush, this shank being provided with a transverse slot 38 carryin the slide. The end of slide 35 is provided with an offset 43 engaged by a coiled spring 44 for the purpose of retaining the slide in position to hold the cut-01f device 32 closed. This device will be opened during operation and held in that position by the pressure of the thumb or one of the fingers. It will be understood that the members 28 and 40 of the brush are secured by suitablefastening devices indicated at 45.
In Fig. 2 connection 29 enters an apertured discharge head 29 and a similar connection is shown at 62 in Fig. 2. Tube 15' connects the air pump with the tank 10.
What is claimed is A controlling device for a pneumatic paint brush, comprising a tubular casing, a slotted rotatable member operating therein, an element having a segmental toothed portion carried by the rotatable member, a slidable device provided with a rack engaging the toothed element, the slidable device having a guiding slot therein, means engaging the slot last named, an offset device on one end of the slidable device, and an adjustably mounted spring engaging the offset device.
In testimony whereof I afl'ix my signature.
FRANK POLCHO.
