Application filed December 12, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL KREY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cradles, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my present invention is the provision of a suspended swinging cradle of advantageous construction.
Another object is the provision of a cradle construction susceptible of being readily knocked down for convenience in storage and shipment.
Another object is the provision of easily manipulated means whereby the body of the cradle may be secured against swinging and may be as readily unlocked and rendered free to swing.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.
From the drawings it will be understood that my novel cradle comprises a stand and a swinging body; also, that the stand is made up of four standards 1, and a horizontal frame, which frame includes longitudinal bars 2 and transverse bars 3. The said transverse bars 3 are permanently connected to the ends of the longitudinal bars 2, and are extended outwardly beyond the longitudinal bars. Upper and lower angle irons 4 are fixedly connected to the inner sides of the standards 1, and the end portions of the frame bars 3 are interposed between the upper and lower angle irons 1, and

are detaohably connected to said angle irons through the medium of bolts 5 and nuts 6, from this it follows that the horizontal frame may be readily disconnected from the standards 1 for storage or shipment, and that said horizontal frame may as easily be connected in fixed relation to the standards without the employment of skilled labor or tools, other than an ordinary nut wrench.
Arranged and adapted to be swung above the horizontal frame of the stand is the cradle body. The said cradle body comprises a bottom 7, end walls 8 and side walls 9. At its inner side each end wall 8 is provided with six angle irons 10, 11 and 12, the said angle irons being arranged in two vertical series of three angle irons each. The horizontal arms of each of said angle irons is apertured, as shown. The bottom 7 is superimposed upon the arms of the lower angle irons 12, and is apertured at 13. The longitudinal bars of the side walls 9 are arranged above and below the arms of the angle irons 10 and 11, respectively, and are apertured at 1%. Rods 15 are removably arranged in the apertures of the side walls and bottom and in the apertures of the angle iron arms, and are provided at their upper ends with enlargements 16. From this it will be'understood that when the rods 15 are removed upwardly, the end walls 8 may be readily disassembled from the bottom 7 and the side walls 9; also, that when the end walls 8, side walls 9 and bottom 7 are relatively arranged and connected through the medium of the rods 15 as shown, a rigid and strong cradle body is produced, and one in which there is no liability whatever of the parts becoming accidentally separated.
Interposed between the lower portions of the end walls 8 of the body and the upper portions of the standards 1, are swinging suspension arms 17. One of the said arms 17 is fixedly connected to a crank 18, and the said crank 18 is connected through the medium of a pitman 19 with a treadle 20, so as to enable a housewife to conveniently swing the cradle body incidental to sewing or other domestic work.
One of the standards 1 is provided with a transversely disposed sleeve bearing 21, and movable endwise inwardly and outwardly in said bearing is a rod 22 having at its inner end a keeper 23 of a size to receive the adjacent suspension arm 17 At its outer end the said rod 22 is provided with an eye 24. For cooperation with the said eye 24, I provide a vertically swinging safety fastener 25. The said fastener is pivoted at 26 to the mentioned standard 1, and is provided with a finger-piece 27, and a down Wardly extending terminal portion 28 adapted to enter the eye 24. Manifestly when the rod 22 is in its innermost position, the keeper 23 will strongly hold the cradle body against swinging, and the fastener 25 will preclude casual disengagement of the keeper 23 from the cradle body. When, however, the fastener 25 is swung upwardly to disengage it from the eye in the rod 22, and the said rod 22 is moved endwise outwardly, the cradle body will be released and may then be swung by hand or through the medium of the treadle and the driving connection described.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. The combination in a cradle, of a stand having standards, a swinging cradle body, suspension arms connecting said body with said standards, a rod arranged in a sleeve bearing carried by one standard and movable transversely endwise and having a keeper at its inner end adapted to receive one of the suspension arms and also having an eye at its outer end, and a vertically swinging fastener pivoted to one of the standardsand having a lateral finger-piece and also having a depending portion to enter the eye in the rod and thereby detachably hold the rod in engagement with the suspension arm.
2. In a cradle, the combination of'a stand, a swinging cradle body connected therewith, and means to detachably fasten the body against swinging, said means comprising a keeper member equipped to engage a swinging portion, and a safety fastener carried by the stand and movable into and out of engagement with the keeper member and adapted in use to prevent disengagement of the latter from the cradle body.
