SAFETY-RAZOBFBLADE PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 6, i920.,`
Application filed April 29,1919.' Serial N0. 293.472.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SPRIN- HELL, a citizen of the United, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in oafety-Razor-4 Blade Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
Y This invention relates to means for ,protecting safety razor blades, and has frits .object to providea novel, simple, and inexpensive carton or box for holding safety razor blades of the Gillette type, when not in use. A further object is to provide a protecting case .of the\ class, wherein a dozen or more of the naked blades may bes'tacked and held in such :mannerthat their v'cutting edges are `preventedfrom coming into contact with with any -of the walls on arts of the case, and wherein :each bladein'its order may be readily and quickly remoxzed or replaced, without dangerv of dulling itsgfedges.
I attain these omet-its by the means set forth in the detailed description which-follows, and as illustrated by the accompanydrawing, in whichin Figure 1 1s atop-plan view of the com-l plete devicethe same being closed.
l Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, substantially on line 3 3 of Fig. 1; the body being detached for moreclearly showing the construction and arrangement of the ade support. V
Fig. 4 is a cross-section, taken on line 4 4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5-is a side elevation of the blade supporting part.
I-Ieretofore 'safety razor blades, particularly of the Gillette ty e, have been packed in -nea't fitting indivl ual paper envelops,
' without any means for shielding their outtainers. In many instances, the new blades nl* 4 ,'blade'v protector.:
ting edgesfrom contact with the paper conwhen wanted for shaving have been found to be dull and unfit for use unless resharpened, due to the 4constant frictional coitact ofhthe edges with the pa er wrappings uring s ipment and handling of the pabkages. The following' is a detailed `description of my In'the drawing, referring to Figs. l to l 5 inclusive, 2 represents the body of the carton or case, whiclig'is hollow and entirely closed, except at "one end 2': themale member of the device, which par- 3 represents' dimensions of the cap 3 and is' inserted in,
and made rigid with the cap. The bottom portion 3b of the part 3a, which supports the razor blades 5 projects a considerablerdistance beyond the open end of the cap, and is reinforced by tapering side walls 3c, which tend to stii'en and prevent the bottom from bending or breaking under the Weight of the blades 5. rIhe bottom 3b is preferably wider and longer than the `blades (see Figs.'1, 3 and 5), so that when the blades are stacked thereon (see full lines 'in- Fig. 3) their oppositely disposed cutting edges, 5, as well as, the ends of the blades are held from contact with the side-walls 3, and the ends of the body 2 yand the cap 3. All of the Gillette safety razor blades, so far as I aml aware, are
provided with a number of -alining perfora tions, as 5a. 6 represents two or more pegs or posts, which areri dly secured to the bottom 3b by any suita le means, as by devices 7 rlhepostS 6 are spaced to register with two or" more of the perforations in the blades. The posts 6 are preferably long enough to support a dozen or more of the blades 5, and the 'free tops of said posts approach close enough to the top walls of the body and cap' to prevent the accidental release of the blades while the carton is closed and being handled. The top-ends of the posts 6 are slightly rounded to facilitate the applying and removing of the blades. To remove one of the blades 5, the operator withdraws the male part 3 from the body 2, and then inserts his finger nail between the exposed endsof the blades and lifts the toping one open end, of a cap for closing said end, said cap having a hollow portion which projects beyond the open end of the body and is provided With a' reduced portion which telescopes said body, the said cap heving an extended bottom portion Iadapted to be inserted its full length. into said body,
and a plurality of pegs disposed perpendicularly on. said bottom, the height of said pegs being substantially the same as the 10 deptho the hollow end of the cap, and one 01E said pegs disposed Within the dhollow end of the cap for preventing accidental lrelease of articles mounted on said pegs. vy ln testimony whereof l aIiX inysignature.
