' LAMP BRACKET- A FILED APPLI TION 0,1918- 1,335,396. Patented Mar. 30, 1920..

GEORGE J. SEISS, F TOLEDO, OHIO.
LAMP-BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lVIai. 30, 1920.
Application filed April 30, 1918. Serial No. 231,728.
lamp, and has for its object to provide anadjustable bracket which will be universal in its operation; that is'to say, which can be secured to a number of the different parts of the bracket and still hold the lamp in the desired position.
My means of accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a lamp equipped with my improved bracket.
Fig. 2 is a top or plan view of the bracket.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the lamp showing the means of engagement of the bracket.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description.
As shown in the drawings, the lamp 4-, is 7 provided with the usual extending pivoted arms and 6, which are pivoted to a plate 7, which is provided with vertical slots 8 and 9 which are in spaced relation to each other. My universal bracket is formed of two members 10 and 11. A bolt 12, is provided at the center of the members 10 and 11, and is equipped with a wing nut 13, to clamp the bracket in position. The rear ends of the members 10 and 11 are provided with a squared portion 15 which is ina slanting position with relation to the member as clearly seen in Fig. l, to clamp the desired part of the bicycle.
y 1 The forward end 16 of each of the memhers is branched and each branch is provided with a lug, 17 and 18 respectively, which are at an angle toeach other. These lugs are adapted to engage the slots 8 and 9 formed in the plate 7 v 7 It will be apparent from this description that the angle at which the lamp is held may be varied either by the lugs 17 engaging the slots 8 and 9, or the lugs 18, engaging them, and that the position of the clamping square 15, will be correspondingly varied, this position being shown by the dotted lines 19.
A still further adjustment can be had by reversing the position of the members 10 and 11, when the bracket can be caused to assume the position shown in the dotted lines 20. When the desired: position is secured, the squared shoulder is placed around the part'of the bicycle, which it is desired to clamp, and the wing nut 18 is tightened upon the bolt 12, with the result that the bracket will clamp and hold the lamp fixedly in position. V
Having described my invention, what I regard as new and desire to secure by. Letters Patent'is:
A device of the character described the combination with a lamp a plate secured thereto, there being slots in said plate in spaced relation to each other, of a bracket comprising two matingmembers, a boltfwhich connects said two members, each of said members having a slanting squared portion at one end the other end being branched, each branch having a lug thereon, said lugs projecting in opposite directions and being formed at angles to each other but corrcsponding to the lugs on the opposite member on the corresponding branch, for the purpose set forth substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specificatlon.
