JOHN A. CORN, OE CRAVVFORDS'V'TLLE, INDIANA.
'WALL CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed April 30, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Conn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Urawfordsville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall Construction, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in wall construction, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a wall construction, that is adapted to be easily placed in position, the various parts thereof being manufactured separately and readily assembled, the wall comprising a plurality of tiles adapted to be positioned in set-in frames, curely held between upright posts. The wall may be either single or double, as desired, and the tiling and also if suitable the frames and posts being formed of some plastic material Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture, and one which will be very efficient in operation.
llith these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and an rangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claim.
lln the accompanying drawings:
Fighre 1 is a side elevation of a portion of the wall, and
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section through the same.
In describing my invention I shall refer to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The numeral 1 designates the baseboard of the wall construction, which is provided at spaced intervals with a plurality of upright posts, the post 2 forming the corner post, and the post 3 one of the side posts of the wall. Certain faces vof the post are provided with parallel longitudinally extending grooves 4: therein, a pair of the grooves being employed when it is designed to use a double wall construction, but it is obvious that a single groove is employed where a single wall formation is used. The inner face of the post 3 is provided with a single groove 5 extending longitudinally thereof,
Specification of Letters Patent.
and said frames being so Patented Mar. 23, 1920. Serial No. 231.708.
that receives the outer edge of the partitioning wall as is obvious.
Adapted to be positioned in the grooves in the adjacent faces of the post, are a plurality of substantially rectangular shaped frames 6, which have their side edges adapted to be positioned in the grooves, as is clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, and each. of the frames 6 is provided with a longitudinally extending center bar I, and a plurality of spaced transverse bars ll, that divide the frame into a plurality of sections. Each of these sections is substantially rectangular shaped, and each inner edge thereof, intermediate ends, is provided with a dovetail projection portion 9 for a purpose to be hereinafter more fully described.
Adapted to be positioned in the various sections formed in the frames 6, are a plurality of. tiles 10, which are fo aned preferably of some plastic material, and which are correspondingly shaped to the site of said sections, each tile 10 being provided on its outer edge, intermediate its ends, with a dovetail notch 11 that receives the projecting dovetail portion 9 of the adjacent edge of the section of the frame. This cooperative connecting means between the edges of the tiles and the inner edges of the sections of the frame will securely hold the tiles in position.
If it is desired to llllliie the wall construction permanent, some cement mortar is em ployed to secure a positive connection be" tween the frames and the posts, and to securely loclr the tiles within the frames. Where it is, however, found desirable to make the wall removable, a. type of mortar, preferably mud mortar, is employed that securely holds the various parts together, but perinits the removal thereof when found suitable. The posts are adapted to be formed in various shapes is found suitable and necessary according to the formation of the wall. Although the accompanying drawings show a straight wall construction, it is obvious that the various parts of this device may be curved, so that it is suitable in constructing round silos and like articles. The partitioning wall of the device, illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and designated by the numeral 12, is a single wall construction, while the outer wall is double for a purpose which is obvious. All of the parts of this wall construction are preferably formed of plastic n'laterial,
although it is obvious that any other desired material may be utilized in the construction thereof.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention may be VHaving fully described my invention,
what I claimas new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A wall construction including a plurality of upright posts provided with vertical grooves in their sides, frames positioned between the posts and fitting into the said grooves and provided with cut-outs to provide longitudinally and transversely extending bars having side extensions forming dovetailed lugs, and panels positioned in the cut-outs of said frames and provided with recesses transversely through their side faces to provide undercut seats receiving the lugs of the bars and providing interlocking connections between the bars and edge portions of the panels to securely hold said panels in position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature hereto.
JOHN A. CORN.
