To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. KnN'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hose Clamping Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My object is to make a hose clamping tool, and my invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a hose clamping tool embodying the principles of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a view analogous to Fig. 1 upon a reduced scale and showing an operation.
Fig. 3 is a perspective showing another operation.
Fig. 4: is a perspective showing a double turn wire around a hose ready to be operated upon with my clamping tool.
Fig. 5 shows a piece of hose with the clamp complete.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary perspective showing the operation of making a single turn clamp.

Referring to Fig. l, the jaws 1 and 2 have handles 3 and 4. The handle 1 is inserted through the handle 3 and the handles are connected together by a pivot 5. The handles 3 and 4c are crossed as in a pair of shears or pliers, so that when the handles 3 and 1 are pressed together the jaws 1 and 2 are pressed together.
Wire cutters 6 and 7 are formed upon the jaws 1 and 2 and handles 3 and at in the usual way.
The jaw S is formed integral with the handle 9 and the handle and jaw are connected to the handle 3 by a pivot 10. The handle 9 is longer than the handle 3, and when the handles 4t and 9 are pressed toward each other the handle 9 engages the handle 3 and brings the jaws 1 and 2 together and moves the jaw 8 away from the jaws 1 and 2.
The point of the jaw 8 is turned out wardly to form a wire engaging hook 11 and the hook 11 has a notch 12 crosswise of the hook at its center.
In the practical operation of placing a two-turn wire clamp upon a hose by the use of a hose clamping tool a piece of wire is cut Specification of Letters Patent.

substantially to the desired length and bent to form the central bar 13 and parallel legs 1t and 15 extending from the end of the central bar 13. The legs 14: and 15 are passed around the hose 16 and the free end portions 17 and 18 are passed under the bar 13 between the rigid ends of the legs 14: and 15, and the portions 19 and 20 are bent toward each other then the tool is applied by placing the hook 11 over the bar 13 and placing the portions 19 and 20 between the jaws 1 and 2, as in Fig. 2, then the handles 4 and 9 are pressed toward each other thereby pulling outwardly upon the portions 17 and 18 and pressing inwardly upon the bar 13 until the bar 13 has been pressed tightly against the hose and the legs 1% and 15 drawn tight around the hose as in Fig. Then the tool is moved bodily in a circular direction to bend the portions 17 and 18 part way around the bar 13 then the tool is removed, the surplus ends cut away and the hose band is finished, as in Fig. 5.
In making a single turn hose band or clamp, a piece of wire is cut to the desired length, a knot 21 is formed in one end, the wire is placed in the notch 12 and the body 22 of the wire is passed around the hose 23 and crossed upon itself, and the opposite end portion 2 1 of the wire is placed around the lower jaw 2 and pinched between the jaws and then the handles 9 and 11 are pressed toward each other thereby pulling the wire tight around the hose, and then the tool is given a twisting motion to cross the ends of the wire and make hooks, then the tool is removed, the surplus cut away from the ends of the wire and the clamp is finished, as in Fig. 7.
Thus I have produced hose clamping tool comprising the combination with a plier, of a third lever pivoted to one of the plier levers and forming a third handle and a third jaw, the third handle engaging the plier handle to which it is connected, so that when the third handle is moved inwardly the third jaw is moved outwardly, there being a hook upon the point of the third jaw, and a notch crosswise of the hook.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention as claimed.
I claim:
1. The combination with a pair of pliers of a third lever pivoted to one of the plier levers on the handle side of the plier pivot and forming a third handle and a third jaw, the third jaw moving away from the plier jaws when the third handle moves inwardly and the third handle engaging the plier handle to which it isoconnected beyond its pivot to close said plier jaws, there being a hook cross-wise of the point of the third jaw and the hook being provided with a transverse notch.
2. The combination with a pair of pliers of a third lever pivoted to one of the plier levers on the handle side of the plier pivot and forming a third handle and a third jaw the third jaw moving away from the plier jaws when the third handle is moved inwardl and the third handle engaging the plier andle to which it is pivoted toward the end of said handle from its pivot point to close said plier jaws.
3. The combination with a plier, of a third lever pivoted to one of the plier levers rcarwardly of the plier pivot, and forming a third handle and a third jaw, the third lever being U-shaped in cross section to receive the plier handle to which it is connected for cooperation therewith to operate the tool.
