Specification 0! Letter: Intent.
Patented Mar. 23,1920.
Application filed September 15, 1819'. Serial No. 328,817;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lomsn MARIE Taylor a citizen of the United States, and a res1- dent of Chicago, Cook county, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Marcel- Wavers, of which the following is clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to for the hair, and its rincipal object is to provide simple and e cientmeans for imparting wave like effects to the hair. The
invention consists in a plurality of'substantially similar, hair waving devices which may be readily secured together so as to temporarily hold and set the hair in the.
wave like condition which is imparted to it by. the waver. The invention further consists in the several novel features .of construction, arrangement and combination of parts, hereinafter fully set forth and claimed. i-
The invention is clearl illustrated in the drawing accompanying t is specification, 1n which:-
Figure 1 is a plan of a Marcel waver for the hair showing a simple embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the outer member of one ofthe hair waving devices,
and
Fig. 4 is an end View of one of the hair waving devices.
Referring to said drawing, the reference characters A, B, C, designate several Marcel Waving devices for the hair, embodyin a simple form of thepresent invention. he separate hair waving devices are constructed substantially in one and the same manner and oneof the'devices will be described in detail.
Each hair waving device consists of a perforated, substantially, semicircular thin, sheet metal outer member 5, preferably formed of aluminum or other thin metal or material, and an inner perforated substantially semi-circular member 6, removably secured to the outer member by spring clips 7, welded, soldered or otherwise secured to one face of the inner'member 6. The spring clips project over and down from the edges of the inner member 6, as is seen at 8 in declared to be a full,
Marcel wavers Fig. 4, and have hook like ends 9, which engage with lugs or other projections, 10 that are provided upon the outer face 0 the outermember 5. Obviously, anyequivalent form of clip or attachingv means may .be substituted for the one shown, for accomplishing the same result, namely that of temporarily securing together the two members of the hair waving device. Preferably, said sprmg clips are secured upon the inner members near their outer ends as shown.
For the purpose of connecting the several hair waving devices, each 1s provided .on one ,side, with pins or lugs 11 that project from one side of the outer members 5-, and are provided with heads 12v upon their outer ends. The opposite sides of themembers 5 are formed with lengthwise extending slots 13, at places opposite to the pins and sald slots are formed with enlarged ends 14 through which the headed pins may be nserted. If desired tongues 15 may be left 1n the enlarged portions 14 of the slots 13, which ton ues spring back after the headed p nshaveeen thrust through the enlarged portions of the slots, but which prevent an accldental disconnection of the hair waving devices fromeach other.
In use, the hair waving devices may bedisconnectedfrom each other, and the two members of each waver are then separated. An outer member 5, is then placed below the hair, where the wave like condition is to be produced, and the upper member 6, is then placed over the hair above the outer member and pressed down into the outer member until the spring clips snap-over the lugs. The hair is thus bent or curved to conform to the shape of the waver and held in that condition after which a second outer member is placed under the hair adjacent to'the first one, the inner member placed over the hair and fastened in place on the outerv by those skilled in this art, that waving devices may wherever it is desired to give the wave like of construction is exact form of by providing perforations in the hair wav-- ing devices the hair is permitted to dry thoroughly and quickly. It will be understood, the hair be applied to the hair,
effect, and that as many of the wavers may employed at thetime as is found desirable.
This device is not to be confused with the ordinary devices for curling the hair, as an entirely different wave line is imparted to the hair with use of a waver, embodying the present invention.
More or less variation of the exact details possible Without departmg from the spirit of this invention; I desire, therefore, not to limit myself to the the construction shown and described, but intend, in the following claims, to point out all of the invention disclosed herein.
I claim as new, Letters Patent:
1. A Marcel waver for the hair, comprising a plurality of detachably and slidably connected substantially similar hair waving devices each of which consists of an outer and an inner member substantially semi-cir and desire to secure by cular in cross section, and means for detachably clamping the members of each hair waving device upon the hair.
2. A Marcel waver for the hair, comprising a plurality of substantially similar, hair waving devices detachably connected together and lengthwise movable with respect to each other, each hair waving device consisting of an outer and an inner member, substantially semi-circular in cross-section, and'spring clips for securing together members of each hair waving device.
3. A Marcel waver for the hair, comprising a plurality of substantially similar hair waving devices detachably connected with each other, and lengthwise movable with respect to each other, each hair waving device consisting of outer and inner, perforated, semi-circular, nestable members and means for detachably securing together the members of each hair waving device.
4. A Marcel waver for the hair, comprising a plurality of detachably and slidably connected substantially similar hair waving devices, each consisting of outer and inner perforated, substantially semi-circular members, and spring clips for detachably securing the said two members together.
5. A Marcel waver for the hair, comprising a plurality of slidably connected substantially similar hair waving devices, each comprising two hair waving members and means for detachably connecting said hair waving members together upon the hair.
