To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Euro]? 0. Rounu'rsox. a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a citizen of the Dominion of Canad a,'residing at Cleveland, in. the county of Cu ahoga and State of Ohio, have invente a certain new and useful Improvement in Suction-Cleaners, of-which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description, re erence being had to the accompanying drawm s. This .invention relates to suction cleanersof the type wherein a casing having a collecting nozzle and a motor operated fan is moved about over the floor so as to present said nozzle to various arts thereof to remove dust and refuse t erefrom. The objects of the invention are the provision of a device of this character of simplified, im-
roved, and cheapened construction, greater improvements. motor shell At theforward side of the fan chamber is formed the collecting, nozzle which consists of a convex web 6 extending forwardly and downwardly opposite to and in alinement with the collar 3 and merging with the wall 7 whose direction is transverse to the fan chamber axis ,and whichterminates in a transverse lip 8. Spaced from and substantially parallel to the wall 7 is a second wall 9 terminating in a lip 10 which, in connection with the lip 8, defines an inlet mouth. The lane of this mouth, in the present embodiment, is substantially paral lel to the fan chamber axis, and the walls 7 and 9 are approximately perpendicular thereto. The lateral margins ofthese walls are connected by a web which first rises abruptly, as shown at 11, and then tapers inwardly and upwardly as at 12 until it merges with the web 6 as shown at 13. Beneath and inside of the web 6 is a tubular wall 15 defining a passageway opening into the center of the fan chamber, said passageway also communicating with the space between the walls 7 and 9. Located inside the collectin nozzle are a pair of spaced studs 47-47 avin heads 48 -48 and between said heads and t e bases of. the studs are U shaped friction'springs49. To insert the brush the ear 45 is first presented to its stud so that it may enter between the head 48 andspring 49, after which the brush casing is swung laterally so as tov present the ear 46 to the other stud in the held during use but-can be instantly removed same manner. The brush is thus securely for the purpose of cleaning or replacement.- It will be understood that many changes of I detail of'construction could be made wlthout ".departing frommy invention, and all such modifications are claimed'as within the purview of my Letters Patent;
Having thus described my invention what Iclaim is:-
1. In a suction cleaner, the combination of a fan casing, and a rotary fan therein, said fan comprising a disk and a lurality of blades on one side thereof radiating outwardly to the'periphery of the disk, the side wall of said fan casing adjacent said blades being recessed and havin anchored therein a lining plate close to whieli said fan blades sweep, and a nozzle communicating with said fan casing through an opening in-said lining plate. 5 a
