lie it known that l, RAYMOND lvlAnsi-nitn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Frankfort, in the county of Qlinton, State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Stovepipe jincho and Locks; and I do hereby declare the io.- lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to stove pipe thimbles. and more especially it is an improved anchor and lock adapted ior securing as'tove pipe section to the thimble so as to estab lish communication between the lire box of the stove and the chimney, and consequently the outside atmosphere.

it is the principal object of the invention to produce an improved anchor and lock safe con nection between the thimble and the stove pipe so that the latter will be prevented from coming loose or dropping out of its place as usual; to obviate the necessity of employing suspending wires or the like, es pecially at the juncture of the pipe with the flue or chimney opening; to obviate the necessity of mutilating the wall around the openingrto so improve the thimble and the lock as to obviate the possibility of escape of smoke and sparks thereby preventing fires, and to produce a novel construction of simple and economical production for se curely connecting the stove pipe to the thins ble.

With the above objects and others in view will appear as the specification proceeds, the invention comprises certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out and claimed. i

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, wherein like characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation partly broken away, showing the attachment in connection with my improved safety stove pipe thimble.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 designates the thimble proper formed from a short section of pipehaving e usual circumscribing flange 11 extendc-utwardly from its rear end and adapted to hold the thimble within the flue opening in the chimney. The front end of the thimble has a flange 12 relatively wide as compared to the flange 11 which is relatively narrow, the flange 12 also circumscribing the thimble and itself having an inwardly entending head or flange 13 at its peripheral designed to abut the face of the wall around the opening into the flue. The flange 12 is suitably attached to the front end of the thimble preferably by snugly fitting the thimble within the flange or fitting the flange on the thimble and slotting the thimble longitudinally as shown at 14 to provide a series of alternate spaced slots and alternate tongues 15 which are bent at right angles to the axis of the thimble against alternately inner and outer faces of the flange to hold it on the thimble.

The flange 12 is further provided with key hole slots 16 preferably four in number equidistantly spacedinacommon circle concentric to the axis of the flange and the thimble itself. The circular portions 17 are located at corresponding ends of the arcuate bodies of the slots. Outstanding from the rear face of the flange upon opposite sides of a slot are projections cams 18 in the form of strips tapering toward the circular ends 17 and lying equidistantly apart through out the lengths of the slots, but preferably extending beyond the other ends of said slots in convergent relation. The stove pipe which may be of any length, is designated at 20 and this section of the pipe is provided with a flange 21 circumscribing its attaching end to fit against the flange 12 over the tongues 15 at the forward end of the thinlble; and, the thimble and pipe section being of the same diameter, the passages therethrough will accurately aline with each other. A collar 22 is fitted on the pipe section 20 and is preferably provided between it and the flange 21 with an asbestos or other fire-proof packing 23 in the form of a ring, designed to prevent the escape of smoke, sparks.- g'ases of combustion, etc. The collar 22 has around its outer portion a flat band 22 designed to fit snugly against the face of the flange 12, both being of approximately the same diameter. The body of the collar is of corruga edcross section formed by a series of concentric ribs, through the,

rib of which openings are made in alincment with the openings 17 so as to receive securing bolts 26 haviijig enlarged heads 27, squared portions 28 adjacent to said heads and retaining nuts engaged on the threaded portions thereof at the tront taco of the collar. Thus, with the bolts engaged through the collar, the heads of the bolts maybe passed through the circular openings 17 of the slots 16 and by turning the collar, the heads will be caused to ride up on the edges of the projections or earns 18 which are oflset axially with respect to the flange 12, thus drawing the collar and the pipe section toward the thiinb'le and said flange. its the squared portions 28 engage between said projections, the bolts are held from turning and thus the nuts may be tightened to eti'cct a very close union. In addition, a plate or dish may be prtwided to close the opening of the thimble when the stove and pipe section are taken down during the summer months, said disk being fitted between the collar and the flange l2 and having openings alinin with the ll'iiOl'Q- said openings in the collar and flange for receiving the bolts therethrough.

What is claimed is:

1. The combination with a stove pipe section having a flanged end; ot a flre-proot packing ring on salt. pipe section, a collar on said pipe section over the ring, a thianble having a flanged front end, and earn means connecting the collar and thinible flange to lock the two together.

2. A stove pipe thinible, a flange on the front end of the thinible having arcuate slots therethrough, cams on the rear face or the flange adjacent the slots, a collar, and coiniecting means engaging the collar and passing through the slots for drawing the collar toward the flange by engagement with the cams.

3. The combination with a stove pipe section having a flanged end; a fireproof packing ring on said pipe section, and a collar on said pipe section over the ring; of a thin]- lne, a flange at its front end having equidistant slots concentric to the thiinblc. cam projections at the edges oi the slots, and bolts through the collar and slots engaging the edges oi the cams to draw the rollar, packing, and pipe section toward the flange upon the collar being rotated with the bolts.

5. The combination with a stove pipe section having a flanged end, and a ribbed collar engaged at its in er edge on said pipe section and having a flat band around its outer edge; of a thinible, a flange at its front end having equidistant keyhole slots conceatric to the thiinble and with thei enlarg d portions at corresponding ends, cani projections along the edges oi the bodies of the slots beyond the enlarged portions and tapered toward the latter, bolts through the collar between its edges and having enlarged heads and adjacent squared portions,

the heads being designed to ride on the cams as the collar is revolved on the thiinble and the squared portions engaging betw en the cams to hold the bolts against turning, and nuts engaged on the bolts against said rollar.

7.
