UNITED HENRY c rar nivm nnor NORTH TROY, new YORK.
oLaivir ron ii-AMP" oceans AN siiA'DEsQ Be it known that I, HENRY G. BAIfEMAIER, a citizen of the United State's,'- res1d1ng at North Troy, in"the'-'co unty of Rensselaer T 0 all whom it may concern."
and State of New York, have'invented new and useful Improvements in Qlamps for Lamp Guards and Shades, of which the followingis a specification. I
This'invention 'relates'to a combined lamp vide a novel formof interlocking engagement between the guard and shade, the .lat-' ter being lockedupon the lamp and en 'gaged with the guard in such manner as to render the removal of the latter, or the re moval orbreakage of the lamp impossible, without first removing the shade. For the accomplishment of this object, the invention includes the provision of a novel form of lamp guard adapted to be placed upon a lamp socket and held thereon by removable sectional spacin and clamping plates, the latter being held in engagement with the guard and shade by the locking ring.
The invention further consists in the following novel combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. 7
In the drawings: Figure 1 illustrates the application of the invention to an incandescent lamp, the lamp shade and locking means being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary plan partly broken away to show the locking ring securing means. V
Fig. 3 is'an enlarged horizontal section showing the means for locking the shade and guard to the lamp.
Fig. 4 is a detail elevation of removed from the lamp.

Pmmea im.9; 1920.
j'-Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts,'the reference character 10 indicates a lamp 'socket, which is'provided with the usual restricted shade engaging neck ll. The lamp guard isprefera-bly formed of wire, as indicated at '12 and includes a plurality of sections, preferably three in number, which are formed of spaced wirel l, having" one end secured 'to'a ring ll anil the opposite ends secured to an at.- taching sleeve, which is formed of a plurality bf sections '15, These sections are formed with an inwardly extending rib l6 which, iihen't'h'e sections aresecur'ed upon the socket 10 in the Iform' of a ring-engage the neckll. The guard isfurther provided with a spacing ring 17, through which each of the wires 13pass, the said ring serving socket 10, a clamping ring19, the latter engaging both the shade which is formed with a bead 20 and the ring l4. The clamping ring 19 is formed with inner and outer peripheral flanges21 and 22, which are cross sectionally curved, the inner flange being of a greater depth than the outer flange, so as to engage within the groove formed 'by the rib 16 of the ring 14:: while the outer flange 22 provides a groove for the reception? of the bead 20 of the shade 18. The clamping ring 19 is formed of a plurality of sections, preferably two in number, so as to permit of its being positioned upon and removed from the shade and guard. V
The clamping ring 19 is held in engage ment with the shade and guard by means of a locking ring 23, the latter being of split formation and provided with ofi'set ears 24, which are perforated for the reception of a screw or bolt 25. The screw or bolt '25 receives upon one end a flanged sleeve 26, which is positioned over a nut 27, the latter being adapted to be engaged by a suitable socketed key for positioning and removing the nut. e I
In positioning the parts, the shade is first placed upon the socket and the guard expanded'and slipped over the end of the lamp with the ring 14 within the opening of the justed with its flanges in engagement with.
the guard and shade and the locking ring is positioned around the flange 22 of the ring 19 and secured thereon by means of the screw or bolt 25, which serves to securely hold the parts in position. The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of constructionand the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims. a V
Having described the invention what is claimed is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a lamp guard, means carried by the lamp guard for engagement with a lamp socket, a lamp shade, interengaging means between said guard and shade, sectional clamping plates engaging said guard and shade and means for preventing the separation of the plate sections.
2. A device of the class described comprising a lamp guard, means carried bythe lamp guard for engagement with a lamp socket, a lamp shade, interengaging means between said guard and" shade, sectional clamping plates, inner and outer peripheral flanges carried by said plates for engagement with said guard and shade and means for preventingthe separation of the plate sections. V
3. A device of the class described comprising a lamp guard, means carried by the lamp guard for engagement with a lamp socket, a lamp shade, interengaging means between said guard and shade, sectional clamping plates, inner and outer peripheral transversely curvedfianges engaging said guard and shade and means for preventing the separation of the plate sections.
4;. A device of the class described comprising a lamp guard, means carried by the lamp guard for engagement with a lamp socket, a lamp shade, interengaging means between said guard and shade, sectional clamping plates engaging the guard and shade and having'an outer peripheral bead and a transversely curved split locking ring removably secured upon said head for preventlng the separatlon ofthe plate sections.
