The outer 'member10 has a very slight outer and inward taper from the flange 12 and has at its upper end 19 a slight curve, which approximates a horizontal portion with its inner end 20 turned or dipped downward. This approximately horizontal portion 19 is provided with a plurality of vertical openings 21, arranged therearound in a circle and located approximately vertically above the upper edge of'the inner member 11, while the horizontal flange 12 is provided with a plurality of vertical openings 22, arranged in a circle around the flange, as shown in Fig. 2. The inner member 11 is provided with a plurality of horizontal openin s 23, arranged therearound in circular relation slightly above its lower edge. These openings are relatively small and are preferably composed of two rows of openings arranged in staggering relation, which while permitting a proper volume of air to pass through the openings, it provides the air in small currents.
As clearly shown in Fig. 1, the inner mem ber 11 is of a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the flange 9, but greater than the diameter of the outer wick tube 1, which provides an annular chamber 24, surrounding the upper end of the wick tube above the flange 9.
The chimney A is provided with a suitable handle, (not shown) by means of which it is readily lifted from the wick-tube for the purpose of permitting ready access to the wick for lighting purposes, or for the purpose of renewing the wiclc By reason of this construction, 'the outer air distributer B is in a sense a part of the chimney,
so that when the chimney is removed from the structure, the outer distributer B is removed with it, it leaves the wick entirely exposed for lighting or other purposes, making it easy to light the burner. Also by reasonof this construction, the weight of the chimney and the outer air distributer B is sustained by the lower edge of the inner member 11, resting on the flange 9, and the inner edges of the lower portions of the spacers 16, are slightly tapered upward, as shown at 25, so that these spacers not only serve to unite the parts of the outer air distributer, as described, but also serve to accurately center the air distributer in respect to the wick, which is absolutely essential for proper operation and to obtain a uniform blue flame throughout the complete circle of the wick. Any appreciable variation out of center of the air distributer in respect to the upper end of the wick, will cause a yellow portion in the blue flame. By accurately centering the outer air distributer, as described, the formation of yellow portions in the blue flame is avoided. This construction accurately positions the inner and outer members in respect to the wick and insures accurate burning.
23, provides a surrounding cooling chamber for the upper end of the wick tube and causes an upward current of air in this chamber, which prevents any falling of vapors therein. This upward current of air will flow through the openings 23 into the chamber 24, the primary function of which is to commingle with the vapor at the upper end of the wick to support combustion, but
some of it may pass upward through the openings 21 of the outer member 10. The
upper portion of the chamber 24 is slightly contracted by an inward annular bend 26 formed in the inner member 11, which will tend to accelerate the flow of air through the chamber 24.
By reason of the construction described, there is an open space between the members 10 and 11 for the entrance of fresh air, for the purpose of cooling the members 10 and 11, and prevent them from over-heating, and the upper end of the member 10 is further cooled by air passing through the openings 21. Furthermore, the air passing through the openings 21 furnishes fresh air to the flame above it, which serves to promote a more perfect combustion. These openings also prevent any dead space over the upper end of the member 10. By reason of this simple construction, there is no unventilated passage outside of the wick tube, all of which serves to prevent the burner from overheating, which is one of the faults of this type of burner. Unless the construction is such as to prevent the burner from becoming too hot, the generation of vapor is accelerated to such an extent that it will cause 'the flame to creep upward and increase beyond its proper height and prevent an accurate regulation unless it is frequently regulated by turning down the wick. Furthermore, excess of vapor caused by overheating will cause a yellow and smoky streak in the flame and if the excess of generated vapor is sufficient, the flame turns from a blue smokeless flame to a yellow smoky flame.
For the purpose of convenience in the claims, the outer member 10 will be referred to as a deflector, and the inner member 11, as a vertical flange.
My improved burner embodies an inner deflector C, and this deflector comprises a bowl-shaped member 27, which has a plurality (preferably three) outwardly combined supports and spacers 28, having shoulders" 29,'which rest upon a suitable ring 30,
attached to the inner side'of theinner wick" tube 2.
Located in the upper portion of this bowl member 27,'is a disk 32, which is slightly concaved upwardly. This disk is smallerin diameter than the internal diameter-of the bowl 21, and its periphery is provided with outwardly extending arms 33 (as "shown in Fig. 4) "the outer ends of which "engage the member 27' near its upper-end. This con-' struction forms approximately an annular passage" 84 between the peripheryof the disk 32and the. inner-wall ofthebowl 27 near its upper end. Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A blue flame burner of the type described, comprising an inner and an outer wick tube, an air distributer within the inner wick tube at its upper portion, a chimney having its lower end surrounding the outer wick tube and an outer air distributer located between the chimney and the outer wick tube, the outer air distributer consisting of only two members, viz., an inner ver tical annular flange surrounding but apart from the outer wick tube, and an outer deflector having its lower end at the lower end of the chimney, and its upper end curved inward over the upper end of said flange and the wick tubes and apart from them.
2. A blue flame oil burner of the type described, comprising an inner and an outer wick tube, an inner air deflector within the upper portion of the inner wick tube, a chimney having its lower end surrounding the outer wick tube and apart therefrom, and an outer air distributer within the lower end of the chimney and between it and the outer wick tube, the outer air distributer consisting of two members only, viz., an inner annular vertical flange surrounding but apart fronrtheouter wick tube and eX-- tending thereabove, an air deflector between the said flange and the-lower end of the chimney, the deflector 1 extendlng upward and inwardly fromthelower end of the chimney with its upper end abovebut apart from the=upper ends of-the' flange and the wic'ktubes, thelower portion of the flange having horizontal air passages'and-the upper-end of the deflector having vertical air passages"combined for' the purpose described.

A blue flame oil burner of the type described, comprising inner and outer tubes, an air distributer within the upper portion of the inner wick tube, a chimney having its lower end surrounding but apart from the outer wick tube, and an outer air dis trib-uter consisting of two parts, viz., an inner vertically arranged annular flange surrounding but apart from the outer wick tube, an outer annular deflector having a horizontal flange at its lower end extending outward to the lower end of the chimney, and the upper portion of the deflector extending upwardly and inwardly over and apart from the upper ends of the flange and the wick tubes, the said horizontal flange having vertical openings to the spaces between the chimney and the deflector, the said vertical flange having openings to the space between it and the outer wick tube and the upper portion of the deflector having vertical openings, the parts arranged for the purpose described.
5. A blue flame oil burner of the type described, comprising an inner and an outer wick tube, an outer air distributer surrounding and extending above the wick tubes, a chimney having its lower end surrounding but apart from the outer air distributer, and an inner air distributer within the inner wick tube, the inner air distributer comprising a downwardly extending bowl-shaped member having a disk within its upper portion, the lower end of the bowl-shaped member and the disk each having centrally arranged and vertically alined openings.
6. A blue flame oil burner of the type described, comprising inner and outer wick tubes, a chimney, an outer air distributer between the chimney and the outer wick tube, an inner air distributer within the inner wick tube, said inner air distributer comprising a downwardly extending bowl-shaped memher, a disk within the upper portion of the bowl-shaped member, the disk having central and peripheral passages, and the bottom of the bowl having a vertical passage, the parts combined for the purpose described.

A blue flame oil burner of the type described, comprising inner and outer wick tubes, a chimney having its lower end surrounding but apart from the outer wick tube, and an outer air distributer between the lower end of the chimney and the upper end of the outer Wick tube, and an inner air distributer located within the upper portion of the inner wick tube, the inner distributer comprising a downwardly ex tending bowl-shaped member, a disk within the upper end of the bowl-shaped member and of a less diameter than the interior diameter of the bowl, the disk having projecting supporting arms, whereby peripheral passages are provided, the bottom of the bowl-shaped member and the disk havannular deflector extending upwardly and inwardly over but apart from the upper end of the vertical flange, spacing members connecting the flange and the deflector, the lower end of the deflector connected with and carried by the chimney, the vertical flange having horizontal openings, the deflector having vertical openings in its upper portion, the parts combined for the purpose described.
9. A combined chimney and outer air distributer, for a blue-flame burner of the type described, comprising a chimney, an air distributer within the lower end of the chimney, the air distributer consisting of an inner vertically arranged flange and an outer deflector surrounding but apart from the flange, the upper end of the deflector eX- tending upward and inward above the upper edge of the flange, the lower end of the deflector connected with the chimney and the flange connected with the deflector by spacers extending below the lower end of the flange, and the inner edges of the extended ends forming positioning members, as shown.
