*While the invention is capable of general application, it is particularly adapted for use in removing screws, bolts, or the` like, which have so long remained vin'place that they are exceedingly difficult toV remove and many times impossible tov move by ordinary means. rllhe tool of 4 this invention', conversely, affords a particularly advantageous ymeans of firmly applying and tightly seating thenuts, screws, bolts and so forth. I am aware that tools, having pressure apply ing means, have been provided heretofore and this invention is concerned primarily with improvements in tools of this eneral type to the end of improving their e ciency and broadeningv their .field of service.
The invention has forits object to provide a tool holding element which is revolubly connected to a lever to permit its rotation relatively thereto and to likewise I permit a substantially universal movement of the lever with relation to the tool. The lever is provided with iexible means for connection with the work upon which the tool is to operate or toy some member stationary relative thereto, whereby a fulcrum is provided for the leverso that the latter may force the tool to the work. The tool holding element is preferably relatively long Y so that it may be inserted .into deep holes to reach screws and the like therein, and such element has a relatively long polygonal wrench receiving portion which permits the wrench to be'slid up and down on the element as necessitated by varying characters of work being operated upon.

` A ball 7 is normally disposed in the socket 6 and is formed on a pin 8 which is driven into the longitudinal. opening 9 of a tool hol'ding'element 10, or otherwise positively Vconnected tothe latter. ,The 'pin 8 extends through a retaining member-11, secured zto the side of the lever 5 by means of screws 12 andl', which are provided with heads to fhold theretaining member against' the side ofthe lever 5. The retainin member 11 is formed with a recess 14, orming a part of the socket for the ball 7 which is loosely retained between said bar 11 and the lever 5to move easily in the socket or recess 6 of the lever 5. The member 11 is also formed with a beveled opening 11', whereby the pin 8 may swing over a 10110r arc.
The element 10 is formed with a rounded end 10 which is spaced slightly from the opposing face of the bar 11, so that the element 10 may swing with the pin 8. The pin 8 is locked or driven into the element 1() only after it has been extended through theV retaining member 11, so that when the screws 1 2 and 13 are removed the member 11 will be held by the ball on the element 10.
The element 10 has secured thereto a square tubular coupling member 15, which projects from the end of the element 10 to provide a socket 16 to receive a tool, such as the screw engaging blade T. In order to lock the tube to the element 10 said element is provided with transverse grooves 101L and the tube 15 is formed withindentations 18, which are forced into the grooves 10a, whereAh bythe tube 15 is locked to the element l0 against longitudinal movement thereon.

The element 10, coupling sleeve or tube 15 and the tool T are preferably square in cross section, so' that. by applying a suitable wrench to either of these members the tool may be rotated, thus rotating the screw S, which is held under positive control at all times. It is impossible for the tool or screw driver blade to jump out of the slot of the screw S, as the blade is held under pressure By relieving Vthis pressure thetool may be readilyremoved vfrom engagement with the screw. l
The recess 14 of the retaining member l1 lis located vcentrally therein, and the screw l18 is adapted to serve as a pivot when the "screw 14 is removed and the member 11 swung toward the inner end of the handle k-lever. The lever 5 is formed with a second socket 5a adapted to be en aged by the-ball 7 and is also provided wit a screw threadedy opening 21V to receive the screw 14,
whereby the leverage may be varied, or 'the relation of the element 10 and its tool with y Witness:

I claim and desire to secure by Lettersl Patent: f
l. A tool of the character described, comprising a lever, an element carrying a tool at one end, means revolubly connecting the element at its other end to said lever; such'V means permitting the lever to be moved in all directions,relatively to said element, and flexible means to connect the lever tothe work to be operated upon or some member relatively stationary thereto, whereby said flexible means atfords a i'ulcrum for the Y lever and pressure may be exerted by the latter upon said element.
2. A tool of the character described, comprising, 'a lever, an element`v connected t0 the leverat one end by a ball and socket joint and provided with a socket at its other Vend toreceiveatool, said element affording y a relatively long portion of polygonal cross section to receive a wrench and permit the latter to move up and down as necessitated by the lcharacter of the work being operated upon, and flexible means for connecting the lever to the work upon which ther tool is to operate or to other means stationary relatively thereto.
