' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, .CHARLEs W. BARN- A Y, a citizen of the United States, and a' resident of the borough of Richmond, county of Richmond, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Key-Levers, ofwhich the following is a specification.
My invention relates tojthe operating:
mechanism of typewriting machines. and the like and the objects of my invention are to provide a key lever of simple, cheap and-sue perior form. The present application constitutes a divisional'application of'mycopending application, Serial No. 128,248,"filed October 28,1916. T a

Fig. 3 illustrates an application of my invention in which a single elongated lobe is provided at one side of and approximately parallelwith the stem 3. Thisv lobe maybe provided for by a continuation of. the stem in approximately a straight line,as shown by the dotted lines .6", or may be otherwise located with respect to stem 3. Fig. 4 shows.v
the key flange resulting from bending blank Fig. 3 on the line 8 to bring plane 2 at right angles to stem 3 and bending the lobe 6 to complete the periphery of the key flange. It is desirable to provide a bracket 9 on the blank upon which the endof the lobe may restwhen bent into position.
Fig. 5 illustrates another application of my invention in which the key end of the blank is slotted to divide the main portion of the key flange into two portions 2 and 2.

Fig. 7 illustrates an application of my invention in case a double stem is desired. It also illustrates how, where two lobes are employed, one may be elongated, as at 5, and
the other, 6, normally shaped; or how both lobes, as 5 and 6, may be elongated. Each stem 3 and 3 is given a right angle bend downward leaving the plane of the flange 22 undisturbed. Lobe 5 is then bent to meet lobe 6 and lobes 5 and 6" are bent to the line 12 and upward on the line 11, and
then bending lobe 10 forward on the line 12 and upward on the line 11, the two side by side lobes 1010 are thrown into spaced,
face to face relation with the axes of pivot bearings l5 coinciding with a common center line perpendicular to the plane of the body of thelever, as illustrated in Figs. 9, 10. and 11..
Referring to Fig. 14: by bending lobe 10 forward and lobe 10' backward and upward 'on the lines 13, 12, 13 and 12, respectively,
the two lobes are thrown into spaced, face to face relation with'the axes of their pivot bearings coinciding with a common center line which lies at an angle of approximately 45 with respect to the plane of the body of the lever, as illustrated at 14-14 Fig. 12, and shown in side view Fig. 13. Thus,
through my invention, by the formation and location of lobes in the plane of a sheet blank and bending same on certain lines, I. am enabled to providea lever with spaced pivot bearings whose coinciding axes lie at any desired angle with respect to the plane of the body of the lever from 90 to 45 or less broken periphery.
