Description

D. K. PETERSON.
Improvement in Portable Fences.
N0. 133,116. Patented Nov.l9,1872.
moses,
UNITED STATE$ PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL K. PETERSON, OF \VILLIAMSBURG, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,116, dated November 19, 1872.
'it shall be portable, and at the same time have many of the qualities of a stationary fence. It also consists in connecting and bracing the panels so that one or more may be taken out and replaced without interfering with the stability of the other parts, making every panel independent, and, it required, to be used as a gate at any place within the length of the fence.
In the drawing, Figure 1 represents it when connected and braced together ready for service. Fig. 2 represents a top view, showing the arrangement of the several parts; Fig. 3, a side and edge view of the rider or brace board. Fig. 4 is the hook or latch and staple used to join the ends of the papels.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In Fig. 1, A represents the end pieces or battens, to which are secured the boards B. O are the riders or brace-boards, lapped at their junction with each panel, as shown in Fig. 2. a a, Fig. 3, are the notches to receive the top board of each panel, they being cut to suit the worm of the fence.
, In the construction of this fence the panels are made by nailing battens to the ends of the boards, or vice versa, and then the hooks and staples, made of about one-quarter inch rod, as shown in Fig. 4, are secured to the ends of the panels; they are then ready to be put together. The riders or braces, Fig. 3, are made of boards that would be suitable for the construction of the panels, and notched as' shown and described. After the several parts are ready for use the panels are then joined together by the hooks and staples, and a suitable worm to insure the stability given, after which the riders are driven down upon the tops of the panels, and, if required, slightly nailed to prevent Inisplacement.
If at any time or place the field which the fence surrounds is to be entered it can be done by lifting the riders and unhooking the panels, after which the parts can be replaced in reverse order.
VVhat I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is, viz:
. A portable Worm-fence, the panels of which are joined together by hooks and staples, and braced by riders, substantially as shown and described.
DANIEL K. PETERSON.
