Description
.l. A. PITTMAN.
TOY ANIMAL CAGE. APPLICATION men SEW-10. 1919.
1,330,654. Patented Feb.10;1920.
WITNESSES 72 INVENTOH WM 62%; Jflzfima/Z 9;; Z Mx 77 I ATTORNEYS burrs r :rEssE ALEXANDER PITTMAN, or NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE.
TOY ANIMAL-CAGE.
Application filed September 10, 19129.
To aZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEssE A. PITTMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Nashville, in the county of David son and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and Improved Toy Animal-Cage, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in toy animal cages, an object of the invention being to provide such a toy made from a single blank of cardboard, which, when folded and secured, will represent an animal cage.
A further object is to provide a toy cage of the character stated, which embodies in its construction devices which simulate the structure of an animal cage, such as is employed in circuses and which will be of extremely simple, inexpensive construction, attractive in appearance and amusing and entertaining in use.
lVith these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved toy animal cage;
Fig. 2 is a new in longitudinal section through the center of the device;
Fig. 3 is a view in transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4 is a view on a reduced scale of the blank from which the toy is made.
A represents a cardboard blank which comprises a top 1, a back 2, a bottom 3, a front t, and a securing tab 5 located in alinernent and separated by fold lines 6, 7, 8 and 9 respectively. Ends 10 and 11 are integral with the front 4 and are separated therefron'l by fold lines 12 and 13 respectively.
The top 1 is preferably sli htly larger both in length and width than the bottom 3 and is provided adjacent one edge with longitudinal slits 14 to receive ornamental lugs 15 at the edge of the front l to hold the parts together while the adhesive is drying and also to give the appearance of ornamental knobs, such as are found on circus cages in general use.
Securing tabs 16 are provlded at the ends of the back 2 and bottom 3 and securing Specification of LettersPatent.
Patented Feb; 10, 1920.
Serial No. 322,732.
The front 1 is provided with two rectangular openings which are separated by a strip 26 which gives the appearance of a standard, such as commonly found on cages of this type. Lips are bent inwardly from the edges of the openings 22 and vertically parallel runs of thread or cord 25 are secured in the horizontal lips 23 and represent the bars of the, cage. These threads may be located in the lips by means of an ordinary needle and openings or marks may be provided to guide the positioning of the thread.
The end 11 is cut forming a tongue 18, which is bent outwardly on a fold line 19 and represents a foot support or platform with which such cages are ordinarily equipped.
It is my intention to supply the blanks and permit the user to fold the same on the fold lines, as indicated, and assemble the cage and any suitable form of animal, not shown, might be utilized inside the cage to give the appearance of a caged animal or animals.
Various slight changes may be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit.
and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. device of the character described coxiposed of a single blank, comprising top, back, bottom, front and ends bent upon fold lines, and securing tabs holding the parts together, said front having openings therein, vertical runs of thread secured across the openings, rounded projections at the edges of the front and back and cut from the bottom, and one of said rounded projections having an enlargement thereon representing a brake shoe.
2. A device of the character described, composed of a single blank, comprising top, back, bottom, front and ends bent upon fold lines, and securing tabs holding the parts together, said front having openings therein, lips bent inwardly from the edges of said openings to give strength to the face and to simulate thickness, vertical runs of thread secured in the upper and lower lips, and a strip between said openings representing a standard.
3, A device of the character described composed of a single blank, comprising top, back, bottom, front and ends bent upon fold lines, and securing tabs holding the parts together said front having openings therein, threads extending across the openings, said top having slits therein, and ornamental lugs at the edges of the front projecting through said slits.
4. A device of the character described composed of a single blank, comprising top, back, bottom, front and ends bent upon fold lines, and securing tabs holding the parts together, said front having openings therein, threads extending across the open ings, said top having slits therein, ornamental lugs at the edges of the front projecting through said slits, and a tongue formed in one end and bent downwardly representing a foot support.
