OIL-COOK-STOVE LID AND FENDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb.-10, 1920.
Application filed July 15, 1919. Serial No. 311,008.
' or other matter from falling on thechimney or into the top of the chimney and extinguishing the flame.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment for oil cook stoves ar-- ranged with means presenting a support for a pot or other articles and a removable fender for directing anything falling throughthe support to a point away from the chimney of the burner.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment including a lid formed with supporting rings arranged to prevent an inward flow of-liquid which may be boiled over or caused to overflow froma container on the lid. 1
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view through an oil cook stove with an attachment embodying the invention shown applied thereto, the attachment being shown in section, taken on line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the attachment illustrated in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail bottom' plan view of one of the supporting arms of the attachment shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail fragmentary side view showing an arrangement of support for the deflector illustrated in Fig. l.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals 1 indicates an oil cook stove of any desired kind proyided with a burner or chimney 2 and a top 3. The top 3 has a number of lid openings 4 which are adapted to receive thelids 5 formed according to the present, invention, said lids supporting fenders 6 also forming certain features of the invention. The lid 5 is formed of a number of rings 7 as shown in Fig. 2 through which radiating'bars 8. extend. These bars are connected to the innermost I ring 7, but extend beyond the outer ring 7 and are flattened at 9' so as to produce a shoulder used in centering the lid 5 and also preventing'the outer ring 7 from engaging the walls of opening 4. This will always allow anything falling on the lid to lid may be built up of many parts and bars -8 extend through suitable openings or the entire construction may be cast in one piece.
. In either event the construction is as shown,
. pass through between top 3 and the lid. The
which presents means for supporting a pot or container of any kind, and which in .addition act as deflecting rings to prevent any overflow of the food or soup of any kindfrom entering the top of the chimney 2 or falling on it. In order to absolutely prevent any soup boiling over the container from entering the chimney 2 fender 6 is connected with the lid 5, said fender being slightly cupped and formed with a central aperture 10. An upstanding flange 11 is arranged ataperture 10 so as to either telescope into or almost telescope into the inner ring 7 oflid 5 while theouter edge 12 extends an appreciable distance beyond the chimney 2, any llquid passing between any of the rings 7 will be guided by the fender 6 and diverted a sufiicient distance to one side to escape the chimney and fall into the base 13. In order to hold the fender 6 properly in place any desired number of hook members 14 are provided which are riveted or otherwise rigidly secured to the fender 6 and formed so as to hook over certain of the bars 8 as shown in Figs. 2 and 4. By this construction and arrangement the fender may be quickly and easily removed and washed at any time.
In operation, when the parts are arranged as shown in Fig. 1 and a container contain ing food is placed thereon, it will be heated in the usual manner, the flame from the chimney passing through the opening 10 and spread freely through the ring 7 in the usual manner. In case the soup should boil v over the escaping soup would pass through rings 7 and either strike the fender 6 or pass a suflicient distance from the chimney not to in any we interfere with the proper operation thereofi What I claim is:
The combination with an oil cook stove burner and chimney of a removable lid formed With a plurality of concentric spaced line With said chimney, and a plurality of rings and a plurality of spaced radiating hooks rigidly secured to the fender formed bars extending centrally through all of said with the hook portion open so as to be ca- 10 rings and beyond the outer ring so as to pable of being bodily applied and removed overlap the top of the stove, a cup-shaped from-certain of said radiating bars Without fender having a central opening positioned disturbing the lid.
beneath said lid with a central opening in THOMAS J. MGKAY.
