IMPROVEMENT "\l FRUIT-KNIFE GAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,031, dated November 12, 1672.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, CHARLES R. HOWE, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Gages for Fruit- ]?aring Knives; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a perspective view of my invention.
This invention has relation to fruit-paring gages for knives, and the novelty consists in the peculiar construction of that part of the gage which is secured to the knife near the handle, whereby the device is made capable of attachment to any ordinary table-knife, substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
A in the drawing represents the frame of the gage, consisting of a piece of elastic wire bent at the points a (1/, and recessed to receive the ends of a roller, 1). The upper part of said frame beyond the roller is bent to form an oblong bow, B, through which may be passed at its end. In the angle formed where the bow B meets the part a a notch, 41, is made. Along the side of the arm a several notches, z, are formed, as shown.
The device is applied to a knife by passing the blade through the bow, putting the edge into the notch i and one of the notches z, and springing the arm 0 of the bow over the back of the knife, where, by the elasticity of the metal, it will be securely held.
The thickness of the peeling is gaged by changing the knife at its point toward or from the roller, in the notches 2.
