PUMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Application filed March 221919. Serial no. 284271.
To all whomit. may concern:
Be 1t knownth-at I, HnNnY A. Bnonnonx, a citizen of the Un1ted 'States,. residing at Reedsville, in. the: county of Manitowoc and and arrangement of parts which will be more fully described in the following specification and set forth with particularity in the claims appended hereto,
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a pump illustrating the invention applied to use,
Fig. 2 represents an enlarged longitudinal sectional view through the supplementary pump cylinder, and
' Fig. 3 represents a transverse sectional view through the supplementary cylinder.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the supporting base or flange carried by the hollow pump stand 6 provided with a 1101- low extension 7 i for connection with a pipe whereby the water pumped may be conveyed to any desired point. At a point op-' posite the extension 7 the stand is provided with the usual outlook spout 8 havinga valve 9 therein for controlling the passage of water therethrough and the upper terminal of the stand is finally restricted and provided with a capv 10 through which the pump rod 11 extends. The upperterminal of the rod is connectedwith the pump handle or lever 12 pivotally supported in a racket 13. v
Beneath the platform on which the stand is supported is arranged the barrel 15 which is secured at its upper terminal in the stand and is connected at its lower terminal with the cylinder 16 in which is arranged any preferred type of pump operable during reciprocation of the rod-'11 to elevate a. column of water in the barrel.
The barrel 15 is divided intoitwo sections at a point below the platform and the upper section 1S connected with a cap 17 while the lower section is connected at its upper end with a cap 18, the caps 17 and 18 forming the terminals of asupplementary pump housing 19.
The cylinder is provided with internal longitudinal ribs 20 arranged in pair and supporting a supplementary pump cylinder 21 through which the rod 11 extends. The
lower end of the supplementary cylinder is open and the upper end thereof is restricted in diameter and fitted or otherwise connected with a tubular housing 22 which extends upwardly through the barrel 15, stand 6 and is attached to and supported by the cap 10.
Within the cylinder the rod 11 is provided with a stop collar 23 constituting an abutment for the piston 24 carrying a flanged packing ring 25 secured in position upon the rod by a nut 26 threaded or otherwise secured thereon. The flange of the packingring 25 is arranged so as to prevent thepassage of water upwardly past the piston into the tubular housing 22 and the head enters the cylinder through the lower open end thereof. Drain pipes 27 are connected with the restricted upper portion of the supplementary'pump cylinder and extend through the wall of the housing 19 and are designed to permit the water which might leak past the ring 2-5 and in through the tubular housing 22 to flow back into the well In operation, during the up stroke of the pump rod 11 water is lifted into the cylin der 16 of the main pump and during the subsequent down stroke of the piston is forced upwardly through the barrel 15.
When the column of water in the barrel necting the adjacent terminals of the barrel 110 sections, a supplementary cylinder arranged in concentrically spaced relation to the housing, a tubular housing extending upwardly from the supplementary cylinder through the barrel and receiving the rod, a supplementary piston carried by the .rod recipro-.
cably mounted in the supplementary cylinder and spaced supporting ribs extending from end to end of the supplementary cy].-' inder and connected With the housing for ing a cylinder and rod, a sectional barrel connected With the cylinder, a'housing connecting the adjacent terminals of the barrel sections, a supplementary cylinder arranged 1n concentrically spaced relation to the housing and having a restricted upper terminal, a
tubular housing connected with the, upper i restricted portion of the supplementary cyltween the piston and supplementary cylinder Wall, spaced supporting ribs extending from end to end of the supplementary cylinder and connected with the housing for rigidly maintaining the supplementary cylinder in concentric relation thereto throughout its entire length, anddrain pipes connectedwith the upper restricted portion of the supplementary cylinder abovethe piston therein and extending through the housing to assist in maintaining the supplementary cylinder in position.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
