JACOB HOOK, OF BEING, NEVADA.
SHIELD FOR CGVERS FOR RADIATOBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l JAooB Hoorz, a citize of the United States, residing at Reno, in the county of l Vashoe and State oi Nevada, have invented certain. new and useful improvements in Shields for Covers for Radi- ."hich the following is a specification, reicrence being bad therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates cover for radiators, and has'for its object the provision oi a simple and eiiicient shield to protect a cover for radiators and at the same time to preventa person from coming in direct contact with the cover oi a radiator, which cover would, undoubtedly, be heated to a higher degree of temperature than the shield when the radiator upon which the shield and cover is placed, is heated.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the preferred embodiment oi my shield.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 2,.l3ig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal, sectional view taken on line 33, Fig. l, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4- is a fragmentary, sectional View taken on line 4 -4, Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of another embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to thedrawings by numerals, l designates the body of my shield, which is provided with an enlarged central opening, and upon the edges 2 of this opening is mounted a frame 3, which frame 3 is substantially S haped in cross-section (Fig. l), constituting a substantially double U-shaped structure; in the outer U-portion iis mounted a wire mesh 5, and in the inner U- portion 6 is positioned the edge 2 of the body or main portion 1 of the shield.
The lower marginal edge 7 of the body to a shield tor a 1 is rolled, and in this rolled edge 7 is positioned a reinforcing rod or wire 8.
The shield is mounted upon cover l and said cover is mountedv on the radiator 9. For the details of construction of said cover see my U. S. Patent, #1,275,923,
issued August 3, 1918.
in the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, I have extended one side oi the body 1 downward, as at l this extension 1*, being adapted to be placed on the side of the radiator (see dotted lines 9, Fig. 2) next to the wall oi a building to prevent the heat from the radiator injuring the wall if the radiator should be placed close thereto, as is often the case. In other respects, the structure of the embodiment shown in F is similar to the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 4, except that in the ombooiment depicted in Fig. 5, the edges 10 of the shield are not rolled as in the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 4-.
From the foregoing description, it will e seen that a very simple and eilicient means has been produced for the purpose of conmeeting or securing the wire mesh screen to the body of the shield.
I wish it to be understood that I reserve the right to make such alterations, modiiications, and changes to my invention as will be obvious to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, and as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
The combination with a radiator, of a re movable cover mounted thereon, a shield mounted on said cover, said shield comprising a body extending over the top of said cover and parallel with its sides and having a central opening, and a wire mesh secured to the body and closing said central opening and extending parallel with both sides of said radiator, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aiiix my signature.
J AGOB HOOK. Witnesses PETER Dorm, MAE Coosrom.
