Description

W. F. CRITTALL.
' PROCESS FOR APPLYING HINGES T0 CASEMENT WINDOWS.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 2:. 1918;
'1 ,329,827 Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
XWWZZ, Wa mu diam/L UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER FRANCIS CRITTALL, OF BRAINTREE, ENGLAND, ASSIG NOR TO THE CRITTALL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, LIMITED, OF BRAIN TREE, ENGLAND.
PROCESS FOR APPLYING HINGES TO GASEMENT-WINDOWS.
Application filed November 21, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTE FRANCIS CRITTALL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Manor WVorks, Braintree, in the county of Essex, England have invented a new and useful Improved Process for Applying Hinges to Casement- IVindows, of which the following is a speci fication.
Usually hinges are affixed to the casement with the pin in them, the frames being clamped together and the holes for attaching the hinges to the panes drilled by means of a jig. By this method the movable frame does not always fit the stationary frame with the great accuracy desirable, and an adjustment may be necessary.
By the process according to this invention, this great accuracy is easily obtained.
According to this invention the two hinge members are separately screwed or riveted to the fixed and movable frames, the frames being then clamped together and the holes for the pivot pin drilled while the frames are so clamped, all these operations being carried out in the work-shop.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Serial No. 263,589.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which is a perspective view of a portion of a casement window.
Referring to the drawing, 1 is the fixed frame of the easement, 2 the movable frame, 3 and f are the two members of a hinge.
The members 3 and 41: are separately screwed or riveted to the frames 1 and 2 which are then clamped together. Holes, indicated by dotted lines 5, are then drilled in one operation, and a pivot pin inserted in the hole.
IVhat I claim is a A process for applying hinges to casement windows which consists in separately affixing the two members of a hinge to the fixed and movable frames of a window, then clamping the frames together, afterward drilling in the hinge the holes for the pivot pin and then inserting the pin.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name this 4th day of November, 1918.
WALTER FRANCIS CRITTALL.
