AHeter-ring to the drawings, designates a -frame ot any suitable size and provided at its iront and rear sides with means for maintaining the letters thereon. Such means may consist for instance ol' a pair of grooves, one at the upper side and one at the lower side thereof, as shown at 8, or any other suitable means for securing the letters on the frame may be employed. My improved letter is stamped up into the torni of a tray having a flange 5 projecting entirelv around its edge for permitting it to slide Within the grooves ot' the Jr'rame, movable spacing members (not shown) being inserted between the letters. The letter is painted or otherwise formed on the eXterior of the bottom oit the tray shaped ment ber G, preferably in White enamel or other suitable reflecting material9 as shown at .7 in Fig. l, the background surrounding` said letter being of a contrasting color, as shown at 8; ln the body olf the letter are provided a plurality of partly punched out disks 9, the unpunched portions thereof being preferably located at the top, and these disks are bent inwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, at an angle of approximately Jfortyiive degrees, whereby the disks form a plurality ot reflecting surfaces Jtroni which the light in the frame is reflected outwardly, the depth of the tray member 6 acting' as a ineiiuin for concentrating the light from below upon the disks. Glass lenses may be inserted in the openings formed by the punched out disks, if desired7 or a sheet of glass or other transparent material may be placed on the inside of the letter and be colored as desired.

Letters of the form above described are inserted into the frame by engagement of their fiancee with the grooves of the trame, cach letter beine' slid along such grooves to its proper place, and spacimin members irsorted between them. The reflecting disks having been bent to the proper angle and the lamps lighted it Will readily be seen that the light will be reilected through the letters at a suilicient number of points to properly illuminate the same.

Vliile l have described in detail the construction herein illustrated, it is to be understood that l do not thereby limit my invention to the precise features shown, as I am aware that many mechanical changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim is:

In a sign, a central body portion having inwardly extending flanges formed integral therewith7 side membersincluding dish- V shaped members having flanges forming a part thereof, the latter flanges cooperating With the flanges of the central body portion for supporting the dish shaped members on theV central body portion, said dish shaped members having a plurality of punched out portions, to permit light to pass therethrough, and bracket members forming grooves Ato engage the flanges of the ldishshaped members, to secure the dish-shaped members to the central body portion.
