To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W LLmM a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Mixers for Engines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had there n to the accompanying drawing. .j This in'yention relates to feed mixing devices for internal combustiolrengines and has special reference to. a combined mixer and anxiliaryair supply for the gas which forms the feed for such engines.
The principal. objects sought are economy of =fuel and improvement, of the efliciency of theengine to which thedevice is applied. , whereby the passingv of. gas through the air to the gas as it passes through the mixer, and, as it is thoroughly incorporated with the gas by the rotation of the heel in the mixer, the principal objection to thus addw ing air to the gas just before entering the cylinder, is avoided, as it is Well known that the addition of air in the ordinary manner is to a large extent impractical.
-1 have illustrated a common spigot valve at 18 controlled by a suitable 'lever 19 and rod 20 which may lead to any convenient place for manipulation by which the amount of air admitted to the mixer may be conveniently governed.
While I have shown the'air supply as coming from no place in particular, except that it is outside of the conductor pipe or conduit, it is evident that in the event of the mixer being used in connection with a Water cooled engine, the air pipe may lead from the top of the radiator from whence air having more humidity therein than the ordinary atmosphere, may he had, but this I do not claim as new with me and forms no part of the present invention.
From the foregoing it is apparent that I have devised means whereby air may be added to the mixture en route from the carbureter to the engine, and such additional air not only thoroughly incorporated With I the mixture, but the mixture itself considerably improved by the motion of the mix ing Wheel. Y
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A gas mixer for a separable gas conduit for engines comprising a single-piece principaLbody member held intermediate of the separable portions of the conduit and forming a dooperative part thereof and having a tangentially disposed port therein, communicating with the outside atmosphere, a central cylindrical screw-threaded chamber within the principal body portion'communica ing' With the port and having a plurality of holes in one end thereof, and a second cylindrical chamber screw-threaded externally and engageable within the chamber in the principal body portion but not closing the port therein, said second chamber having one head formed integral therewith and having a plurality of holes therein and a mixing wheel supported by and intermediate of the heads,
