IMPROVEMENT IN THREAD FOR SEWING SOLES TO BOOTS AND SHQES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,926, dated November 12,1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE V. SHEFFIELD,
of Boston, county of Suffolk and Commonmy invention belongs to make and use the same, I will describe it in detail.
In the drawing, the large parts A taper both ways, tapers meeting at the point a, and at which point the barb of the needle takes hold to draw the double staple fastening into the sole of the boot or shoe,'so as to bring the opposite taper parts I) b together to form one fastening, as describedidmy said patent.
The thread may bemade by passing a roving made of fiax between drawing-and-twisting rolls, as described in my application for Letters Patent for improvement in machines for making double taper thread, and which application was sworn to on. the 29th day of October, A. D. 1872. The thread may be composed of one or more strands,and may be made from other material than flax.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an improved article of manufacture, is v A double tapered thread for fastening soles to boots and shoes, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
