TOY WAGON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 20, 1920.
Application filed February 15, 1919. Serial No. 277,158
i the following is a speci cation.
Our invention is, an improvement in toy wagons, and has for its object to provide a wagon of the character specified, wherein the Wagon is provided with movable figures whose movement is controlled by the movement of the wagon.
In the drawings:
Figure 1' is a perspective view of the wagon in use;
Fig. 2 is a side view;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows a.d jacent to the line; V
Fig. 4 is a partial side view of a modified construction Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrows adj acent to the line;
Fig. 6 is a partial side View of another embodiment of the invention.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 1 to '3, inclusive, the improved wagon comprises a plate or platform 1 having front and rear bolsters 2 and 3, on which are journaled axles 4 and 5, respectively, and wheels 6 and 7 are mounted on the axles. The wheel 6 is 'journaled between the bolsters 2 and the said bolsters extend longitudinally of the plate, while the bolster 3 is journaled transversely of the plate. The shaft 5 is a crank shaft, as shown, and guide rails 8 and 9 are secured to the upper face of the platform. extending longitudinally thereof, and spaced apart from each other to form guideways extending parallel with the ion axis of the plate.
heels 10 are mounted to move in th guideways, and a figure 11 is supported by each slide, the figures in the present instance being the representations of geese. Links 12 connect the respective blocks with the.
cranks of the o1 nk shaft, and it will be evident that when' the crank shaft is rotated the slide blocks will be reciprocated in the guideways, and since the cranks of the crank shaft are oppositely arranged the slides will be reci rocated in opposite directions.
' A'third figure 3 is mounted at the front of the plate, 'thesaid figure being in the present instance the representation of a man, and
the said figure faces the figures 11, so that the said figures move toward and from the figure 12. An eye 14 is provided at the front of the wa n to which. may be attached a cord 15 or drawing the wagon.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. at and 5, the plate 16 is supported by the front wheel (not shown) and'the rear wheels 17' which are secured to the crank f shaft 18 journalcd on the bolster 19. The
guideways 20 are arranged longitudinally.
of the platform or plate, forming the uideways withln which are slidable the sli es21. A figure 22 .is provided, the said fi re having jointed arms and legs, and the egsare connected with the slides as shown in Fig. 3, the foot portion of each leg being secured to a sllde. Links 23 connect the respective slides with the crank shaft, and it will be obvious that when the shaft is rotated the legs of the figures will be advanced and retracted to simulate walking.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Fi 6 the legs of the figure 24 are con- .necte by links 25 with the arms, in such manner that when the blocks 26 arereciprocated by the links 27 connected to the crank shaft 28, botharms and legs of the fi will be reciprocated. The crank she is supported by the bolster 29 which is connected with the wagon body 30. 1 I
In each embodiment of the invention there is provided a wagon body having atone end a crank shaft to which the supporting wheels are secured, and having guideways in which are movable slides, the said. slides being connected to the crank shaft to be reciprocated in opposite directions, and the slides support a figure or figures and impart rotation thereto when they are reciprocated.-
We claim:
1. A wagon of the character specified, comprising a wagon body, wheels for supporting t e body, a crank shaft having cranks and journaled at one end of the body to which the wheels at the said end are secured, said body having on the upper face thereof a plurality of guideways, a slide movable in each guideway, a connection between each slide and a crank of the shaft, the cranks bein oppositely arranged to reciprocate the s ides in opposite directions, and figures supported by the slides, said fig- 'ures comprising representations, one of said figures being connected to each slide.
2. A wagon of the character s ecified, comprising a wagon body, wheels or supportlng t 0 body, a crank shaft having cranks and journaled atone end of the body to which the wheels at the said end are secured, said body having on the upper face thereof a plurality of guideways, a slide movable in each guide'way, a connection between each slide and a crankof the shaft, the cranks being oppositely arran to reciprocate, the shdes in op osite irections, and figures supported by t e slides, the legs of the said figures being connected to the slides to simulate walking.
3. A wagon of the character 5 ecified, com risin a wagon body, wheels or supporting cranks and sha ts journaled at one end t e bod a crankshaft having 1,saa,7oo I of the body to which the wheels at the said end are secured, said body having on the upper face thereof a plurality of guideways, a slide movable in each guideway, a connectlon between each. slide and a crank of the shaft, the cranks being oppositely arbody having guideways slides movable in the guideways', connections between the slides and the crank of the shaft for reiprocatlng the slides when the crank shaft is rotated, and fighres supported by the slides.
