To all whom it ma concern: Be it known t at I, FRANK J. Form, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State clamps, and has for its object to provide a clamp of the character specified especially adapted .for clamping wheels or reels to shafts, to constrain the wheels or reels to rotate with the shaft, wherein the engagement is such that there is no possibility of the wheel slipping with respect to the shaft.

The present embodiment of the invention is shown in connection with a shaft 1, and the clamp consists of four similar sections. Each of these sections is a bar 2 having near one end a longitudinally extending slot 3. A set screw 4 is threaded through the end adjacent to the slot and into the slot, and a nut 5 engages the screw in the slot. This nut has guideways at each side for receiving the edges of the slot, and the inner end of the screw is adapted to engage the opposite end of an adjacent section of the clamp.
iach section has that end remote from the screw reduced laterally the slot and headed beyond the reduced portion as indicated at 6, the arrangement being such that the end of the section may be inserted through the slot with the wide dimension of the section parallel with the long axis of the other section, and then turned to bring the head 6 transversely of the slot.
Each section has a recess 7 on its inner face intermediate the reduced portion and the slo t,;and gripping shoes 8 are held in these recesses. that the engaging surfaces of the shoes are concaved to fit the shaft, and these concave faces are grooved or toothed to insure'a firm grip on the shaft. As shown also in Fig. 3, each section is webbed at one side and at one edge, as indicated at 11, the said webs being strengthening and reinforcing webs, and extending from the reduced portion to the inner end of the slot.
In use, the sections are arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, each section having the headed end passed through the slot 3 to enter the section until the four sections are arranged around the shaft as shown. The set screws 4 are then tightened to cause the shoes to clamp the shaft. It will be understood that the improved clamp is secured to the wheel which is to be secured to the shaft.
I claim:
1. A means for coupling a wheel or reel to a shaft comprising a series of bars, each having at one end a slot and at the other a head adapted to pass through the slot of an adjacent bar, a set screw threaded through the slot of each bar for engaging the adjacent bar whose head is engaged with the slot for clamping the bars on the shaft, each bar having a recess on the face adjacent to the shaft, and a braking shoe in each recess and detachably connected with the bar.
2. A means for coupling a wheel or reel to a shaft comprising a series of bars, each having at one end a slot and at the other a head adapted to pass through the slot of an adjacent bar, a set screw threaded through the slot of each bar for engaging the adjacent bar whose head is engaged with the slot for clamping the bars on the shaft, each bar having a recess on the face adjacent to the shaft, and a braking shoe in each recess. 3. A means for coupling awheel or reel to a shaft comprising a series of bars, each having at one end a slot and at the other a head adapted to pass through the slot ofan adjacent bar a set screw threaded through the slot of each bar for engaging the adjacent bar whose head is engaged with the slot for clamping the bars on the shaft.
