This invention. a elates. to what are known as brassieres, and the object of the invention is to simplify the construction and manufaoture of articles of this class'so as to produce a reasonable and yet efieetive article of the class specified; a further object being to manufacture an article of the class specifiecl of net or openworkmaterial out on the bias thereby producing brassiere having all the qualities of articles of this class, as now constructed, as well as producing bi'assiere which will not bind or be otherwise uncomfortable in use; still further object of the invention being to so make the brassiere as to give it the desiredsliape or form to readily and comfortably conform with the shape or form of the wearer; and with these and'other objects in View the invention consists in an improved method of manufacturing articles of the class specified from a single piece of iabric, or net or openworl; material, out, folded and sewed to the desired form in the manner herein set out and in the article so produced.

The above operation also forms darts at '19 where the end portions 20 are stitched to the main body portion.

The above operation of folding, cutting and forming darts and stitching of the sheet 10 produces the general form of my improved brassiere which is indicated at 22 in Fig. 3 of the drawing and which comprises a main central. body portion 23 with the

15, 16 and 17 therein, the dart 15 pro ducing the desired waist shape, while the darts l6 and 17 produce the bust shape and at the opposite sides of the main central body portion 23 are approximately triangular end portions 24: and 25 formed by folding the end portions 20 of the strip 11 or by the darts at 19 in the manner above set out. In practice, I also preferably connect with the bottom of the body portion 23 centrally thereof a depending strap 26 with which is adjustably connected the usual fastening device 27, and connected with the top of the'body port-ion 23 between the darts l6 and 17 and the darts at 19 at the opposite sides thereof are shoulder straps 28, which are preferably made of elastic material, but which may be made of lace, ribbon or any other suitable material. I also connect with the free ends of the triangular end port-ions '24 and 25 of the brassiere tie straps 29.

In the use of the device, the arms. are passed through the arm-holes 30 formed by the straps 28 and one of the triangular end portions is passed backwardly and then forwardly, after which the other end portion 2-i-25 is passed backwardly and over the first named end portion, and then forwardly and the tie,straps 20 on the ends of both of said end portions are then tied together at the front to hold the brassiere in proper place, it being understood that the pull upon th straps 29, or the end'portions 2a25 will regulate the pressure or binding qualities of the device.

By forming a brassiere or similar device in the manner herein shown and described, I produce a device of this class which readily conforms to the shape of the weare' and produces a comfortable and yet effective articleof this class, and it will be noted that the stitchings or darts at 19 come at the opposite sides of the central portion of the back of the wearer, and while I have stated.

15, 16 and 17 are formed by first cutting the strip 11 at l2, l3 and 14-, and it will be understood that these darts may be formed by'folding the strip 11 at these points in the manner of I forming the darts at 19, and various other changes in and modifications of the details of construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The herein described. method of forming brassieres which consists in providing a sheet of fabric of predetermined dimensions, folding said sheet centrally and longitudinally to form a strip composed of two thicknesses, forming a dart centrally of said strip on one side edge portion thereof, formlng other darts in the opposite edge portion of said strip and at the opposite sides of the first named dart and forming other darts in the opposite end portions of said strip to form a central body portion and approximately triangular end portions arranged at an angle to the central body portion.

2. The herein described method of formmg brassieres, which consists in providing sheet of fabric of predetermined dimen sions and composed of two thicknesses throughout, forming adart centrally of said strip on one side edge portion thereof, forming other darts in the opposite edge portion of said strip and at the opposite sides of the first named dart and forming other darts in the opposite end portions of said strip to form a central body portion and approxi mately triangular end portions arranged at an angle to the central body portion.

3. A brassiere of the class described comprising a central body portion and oppositely directed end portions extending from the central body portion at an angle thereto, said body portion and end portions being composed of two thicknesses of fabric, the main body portion being provided centrally of the bottom edge thereof with a dart and other darts formed in the opposite side edge of the body portion on opposite sides of said central dart and'at a predetermined distance therefrom.
