Description

H. c. REiCH.
v EXTENSION PEDAL. APPLICATION HLEiD OCT. 10. 1917- RENEWED NOV. 5.1919.
1,328,400, Patented Jan.20,1920.
HCHZZ/ 6. Reich UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. REICH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
EXTENSION-PEDAL.
Application filed October 10, 1917, Serial No. 195,779. Renewed November 5, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. Enron, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension- Pedals, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanyin drawings, forming a part hereof. I
The object of the invention is topiov de a pedal extension for use in connection with automobile pedals to arrange the foot plate or pad within the range of convenient legreach of different operators, such extension to be readily and quickly attachable to all sizes and shapes of pedals used on the varione makes and styles of cars, and being capab'le within itself of adjustment to suit varying conditions and the preferences of drivers.
\Vith these and other objects in view the invention consists in a certain construction, combination and relation of parts hereinafter specifically set forth, it being understood that changes in form proportion and details may be resorted to, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawing, representing one enrbodi- I ment of the device,
Figure 1 is a side view.
Fig. 2 is a face view of the base-plate and clamp.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Fig. at is a detail in perspective of a portion of the base-plate and attached standard member.
Fig. 5 is a similar view of the other standard member.
The attachment consists, essentially, of a base-plate, 10, a foot-plate or pad, 11, and a connecting standard, 12, of which the latter is preferably extensible and may comprise relatively adjustable elements, 13 and 14, respectively carrying and connected to the base-plate and foot-plate or pad and adapted to be locked at the desired adjustment by fastening means, such as clamping bolts, 15, having wing nuts, 16. The foot-plate 1s Specification of Letters Patent.

preferably mounted pivotally upon the ele ment, 1%, as shown at 17, so that it may be adaptable in angular position to the foot of the operator, said element being shown as consisting of a single member or bar fitting between parallel spaced members of the other element of the standard, one of said elements, such as 14, being slotted, as at 18, to receive the clamping bolts.
The base-plate carries means for engagement with an automobile foot-pedal, and a simple arrangement consists in providing the plate, 10, with clips, 1.9, and a slot, 20, and an adjustable clip, 21, and held in adjusted position by a clamping bolt, 22, operating in the slot, and slidably mounted on the plate having wing-nut 23. The clips, 19, are constructed to form tapered seats. 24, to adapt them to difi erent thicknesses of pedals. and the movable clip, 21, is capable of rocking, as well as sliding on the baseplate, or, in other words, is terminally inov able toward and from the plane of the plate, for the same purpose.
These features serve to universalize the adaptability and applicability of the attachment to various types of machines.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new is:
In combination, an extension attachment for pedals having a standard consisting of two elements relatively movable in a longitudinal direction, one of said elements consisting of a single member fitting between parallel members of the other element, said other element being connected to a base plate provided with integral clips and a rocking slidable clip for attachment to the pedal, said base plate having a slot, a clamping bolt with a wing nut extending through said slot for purposes of adjusting said clip, and a foot plate mounted pivotally on the upper end of the aforesaid standard.
This specification signed and witnessed this 3 day of October, A. D, 1917.
