Description
J. C. HARRINGTON & D. S. COOKE.
Improvement in Sleeve-Buttons.
N0. 132,761. Patented Nov. 5,1872.
WITNESSES. INVENTOR.
i TATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. HARRINGTON AND DANIEL S. COOKE, OF PROVIDENCE, R. I.
lMPROVEMENT IN SLEEVE-BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,761, dated November 5, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN G. HARRINGTON and DANIEL S. OooKn, both of the city and county of Providence, in the'State of Rhode Island, haveinvented anew and useful Changeable Sleeve-Button or Stud; and we do hereby declare that the following specification,
taken in connection with the drawing and sleevebutton or stud can be worn so as to eX-- hibit four different designs.
In the drawing, a I) represent the two parallel faces of a stud or button of ordinary construction. 0 is the bar which connects the two faces. A is a metallic disk of larger diameter than eitherof the faces a b, and fitted to slide on the connecting-bar c. We prefer to make the rim of the disk A thicker than the rest of the plate, so that when it is brought into combination with either of the faces a b the planes of the latter will not project outwardly beyond the plane of the rim of the disk. This, however, is a matter of taste, and in all cases the faces a b constitute the central member of the design, which is exhibited by their combina tion with the disk A. The two faces a b of the stud or button proper should be made in different design. The two faces of the disk A should also be diiferently ornamented, so that two entirely different efieets will be pro duced by the combination of the two faces a and b, respectively, with the opposite faces of the disk A.
It is apparent from the foregoing that four different designs may be shown with a single buttonthat is to say, the faces a and b may be shown separately, or the combination of each of such faces with the disk-plate A.
\Vhat we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved changeable stud or sleevebutton described, consisting of the stud a c b, in combination with the movable disk A, as
set forth.
