IMPROVEMENT IN CLOTHES-FRAMES.

l Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,717, dated November 5, 1872.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HORACE T. FIELD and DAvrD HARRINGTON, of Worcester, in the county of Worcester, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Clothes-Driel", of which the following is a specification:

Our invention relates to that class of clothesdriers which are attached to the side of a support in such a manner that the weight of the clothes comes on the arms, or one side mainly ofthe sliding head which holds the arms; the object of the invention being to enable the head to be raised and lowered easily and smoothly. Its nature is shown in the specification of its construction, which is as follows:

Figure l of the drawingshows a side view of a clothes-drier embodying our invention, with some portions removed to show other parts beyond them; Fig. 2 showing a horizontal section taken through the line of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view of the sliding head B with its rollers.

A is a bracket or standard firmly secured in a suitable place, as a verandah-post, side of a house or room, and so made as to form a slide for the head B to move up and down upon, and so arranged as to have a surface for the rollers on B by being placed far enough from its support for the rollers to rest on its back, or by being made in a T-form or in a close or box form, as shown in section in Fig. 2, with iianges inside for the rolls a. a. B is the head, which slides on slide A and holds the arms C. .This head is secured to slide A by the stud or arm b, which has the two rollers a. a, to run on the other or back side of the of operating the head or holding it in any position desired on the slide.

rlhis plan of construction has the well-known advantages of being lowered to remove the clothes or to put them on 5 and without the rollers it has been found almost impossible to 'lower the head with the arms loaded without a chattering, hitching motion th at would shake off the clothes, while by our invention it is made compact, simple, and so as to be easily and smoothly lowered or raised however full it may be loaded.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the rollers a, a and lower roller D with the movable head B and the slide A, when constructed and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes above set forth and described.
