OZONIZING- APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 6, 1920.
Original application filed March 1, 1917, Serial No. 151,753. Divided and this application filed .Tune 19, 1917,
Serial No. 175,597.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAYTON J. H. Moolen, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Ozonizing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in ozonizing apparatus, the object of my invention being to provide an improved apparatus of this character which is of simple construction and eflicient in operation, the present application' being a division of my prior application for treating grain, iiled March l, 1917, Serial No. 151,753.
The. invention vconsists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying dra-wing, forming part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section taken through apparatus embodying my invention,
Fig. 2, a top plan view corresponding with Fig. 1, and n Fig. 3, a transverse section of the same.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises a suitable chamber 13 having a pipe 12 leading therefrom to carry away the ozone formed therein. The chamber 13 is divided into three separate compartments, each provided with a glass top 13 and a side door 14 for access thereto. blower 15 is connected with chamber 13 and is adapted and arranged to force al blast of air through said chamber and into the pipe 12. Arranged in each of the compartments 13 is a readily removable rectangular frame 16 having suitable electrodes 17 and 18 arranged therein. Each of the frames 16 is provided .with four notched cross bars 19 in which glass plates 2O and 21 are removably mounted. Grooved cross-bars 19 and 20 are arranged, as shown, in position to receive the laterally protruding edges of cross bars 19 in the frames 16, and the doors 14 are made of ample size to permit of the ready sliding of frames 16 therethrough. The glass plates 20 are in substantially I-form and Renewed June 30, 1919.
An ordinary centrifugal.
Serial No. 307,783.
of high potention passing through said coils` produces a silent or diffused discharge which ozonizes the air passing through the chamber. 13. This ozonized air passes thence through the pipe 12 into any suitable or desirable apparatus for using the same.
The apparatus set forth is a simple and eflicient one for the purpose.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrymg my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification Without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not Wish lto be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myse f of such variations and modifications as come Within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Ozonizing apparatus comprising a chamber having a transparent top; a door giving access to the side of said chamber; a frame in saidchamber removable through said door; grooved supportingl hars in said chamber, said frame sliding in the grooves in said bars; a plurality of coils mounted in said frame; means lfor passing an electric current of high potential through said coils: and means for passing air through saidchamber, substantially as described.
2. Ozonizing apparatus comprising a chamber divided into a plurality of separate sections, each of said compartments having a transparent top and a door in its side; a frame resting looselyv in each section and removable through the door thereof, said frame having notched cross bars at the top and bottom of each end thereof; grooved supporting bars in said chamber, the notched bars of said frames sliding in the grooves in said supporting bars; a plurality of glass plates removably arranged in alternate sets of notches, said plates being in substantially I-form; electric coils on said plates; insulating plates arranged in the notches between those containing the rst mentioned plates; electrodes on each of said frames connected with the corresponding coils; means for passing an electric current of high potential through said coils; and means at opposite ends of said chamber for passing air successfully through said compartments, 10 substantially as descrlbed.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
PAYTON J. H. MOORE.
