IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,685, dated October 29, 1872.
The body A of the said holder consists of a tube having a half-circle bend, a, so as to bring a portion, 1), of the tube into parallelism with a portion, 0, the said part 0 being about double the length of the part b and provided with a tubular mouth-piece, B, screwed upon it at one end, as shown. The other extremity of the tube terminates ina pivoted teat, O, which extends from the branch or part b at a right angle thereto. The branch or part b may be bent around so as to bring the teat into parallelism with it in manner as shown in Fig. 4, which is a side view of the cigar-holder in the modified form, as described. The branches 1) 0 support a side clasp, D, formed as shown, which embraces both of the branches 1) c, and is capable of being moved on the part c, entirely in rear as well as in front of the teat. At the lower part of the branch 0 is an educt, d, provided with a screw, 6, and a shoulder, f, a washer, g, being placed on the screw and against the shoulder. A small hollow globe or chambered handle, E, is screwed upon the educt, which opens directly into the chamber h of the handle. There are one or more holes, 1', leading laterally out of the teat 0.
On inserting the teat into a cigar and sliding the clasp D upon the latter, so as to encompass and grasp it, the said cigar will be duly applied to the holder. By having the clasp supported by the branch I) as well as by the branch 0 the cigar will be eifectually prevented from revolving or turning upon the teat, and, besides, will be held firmly thereupon. Instead of the mouth-piece being separable from the tube A, it may be permanently fixed thereto or make part thereof; but it is far preferable to have it separable.
On firing the cigar at its front end and introducing the mouth-piece or rear end of the tube A between the lips. of a smoker, such cigar may be smoked by him without contact of it'with his lips. The nicotic vapors or oil that may form in the tube will run through the educt into the handle or reservoir thereof, so as not to gather in the tube and materially obstruct its bore.
I claim- In the cigar-holder, as described, the tube A, bent and provided with the teat O, as described, in combination with the slide-clasp D, as applied to the parts b c of such tube, in. manner and to operate therewith as specified.
2. The hollow globe or receiver E, the adjustable clasp D, the pointed teat O, and the tube A, allconstructed and arranged in manner and to operate substantially as specified,
such tube being provided with either permanent or a separable mouth-piece, as set forth.
