Be it known that I, :TOM BA'rIrY, a subject l of the King of Great Britain and Ireland,
residing at Drighlington, near Bradford, in the county of York, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in lWindow- Blinds, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to an improved form of inside window blind and controlling gear for same, designed to dispense with rollers and` springs, to eXclude all light both at the sides and also in the case of mullions, and at the same time to draw up perfectly straight, with a minimum movement of the control cord.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the provision of a one-piece blind which is raised and lowered in superposed flexible folds by means of cords attached to the bottom lath and passing loosely through eyelets carried by an intermediate series of inclosed transverse rods or latlgis, and in which said cords are actuated and controlled by means of a single hanging control cord in conjunction with an interposed lifting' pulley block device having locking catch with separate hanging cord control.

Figure 1 is an internal front elevation of my invention as applied to an ordinary sliding sash window.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the invention as modied for a mullioned window.
Fig. 3 is a plan (on a larger scale) of the gear case across the head of the window illustrated in Fig. l.
Fig. 4f is'a similar plan of the gear case inountings as shown in Figs. 1 to 4L.
According to my said invention a onepiece blind A of any suitable soft orflexibl'e fabric is Xed to or otherwise suspended from the inside gear case B across the head Vof the window. In the drawings hook and eyelet devices C are illustrated for this purpose. The blind A is tted with transverse Specification of Letters Patent. rodsy or laths D' inclosed within tucks or pocket-s E extending horizontally across the blind at convenient intervals on the inner face of the blind, these rods or laths D being somewhat shorter than the full width of the blind. The blind is raised and lowered by means of a pair or series of cords F attached at G to the bottom lath H of the blind and passing loosely through eyelets I fixed into each intermediate rod or lath D, each cord F being then passed over a spaced-apart pair of guide pulleys J K mounted in brackets L on the gear case B, and then connected to a double hanging lifting pulley block device M, either simple as shown in Figs. 2 and 6, or compound as shown in Figs. l and 5, the lifting pulley block being fitted with a weight N and a hanging control cord O. A double or multiple locking catch of any convenient type, comprising for instance a pair or series of pivoted serrated levers P controlled by a separate hanging cord Q, is interposed on the cords F between the lifting pulley block device M and the gear case B, this double or multiple locking catch P being preferably mounted within a boX R which is also arranged to support the lifting pulley block device M.
The control cords and their connections are ordinarily suspended close to the frame at one side of the window as shown in Fig. l, so as to be readily accessible and at the same time out of the way and invisible from outside. But in the case of a mullioned window they may be conveniently suspended in the center as shown in Fig. 2, the positions of the top guide pulleys J K being correspond ingly modified.
When the blind is raised, the transverse rods or laths D and H are drawn together andthe blind hangs in superposed flexible folds, the depth of which may be varied by regulating the distance apart of the rods or laths. A festooning effect may be obtained if desired by providing a supplementary se ries of eyelets S on the lower part of the blind. The use of the lifting pulley block device M reduces by at least one half the length and movement of the operating cords F, and also prevents the blind from being drawn up crooked. The shortening of the rods or laths at each end enables the blind to ft close up to the frame at each side.
I claim:
l. A one piece inside window blind adapted to be raised and lowered in superposed flexible folds, comprising a bottom lath, cords attached thereto, an intermediate series of inclosed transverse rods, eyelets therein through Which the cords pass, a single hanging control cord, a box R, an interposed lifting pulley block device supported 'thereby and a looking catch P mounted in said box having a separate hanging cord control.
