Be it known that we, LEONARD BECKER- JURGEN' and THoMAs BEYER, citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Tmprovements in Pouring-spouts for Cans, &c., of which the following is a specification.
Uur Object is to make a decanter for canned milk, syrup, and the like, and our invention consists of the novel features herein shown, described and claimed.

V j 7 Referring to Fig. 6, the cutter bear ng plate 1 comprises a circular fiat body 2 having tapped screw holes 3 just inside of its outi I outer edge arranged radially and evenly spaced apart and havin a central bearing opening 4 and lugs 5,6 and 7 extending downwardly from the flat face 8 of the plate,
said lugs being arranged radially around the ening 4 and close to the openlng. The lugs 5, 6 and 7 are of even thicknesses, and have flat lower faces 9, straight inner faces 10, 11 and 12 and round cornered outer faces 13, 14 and 15. The faces 10, 11 and 12 form the intermediate portions of an equilateral triangle equal to the equilateral triangle formed by the faces 13., 14 and 15, said faces 13, 14 and 15 forming the corners of the triangle.
Referring to Fig. 5, the perforating cutter 16 comprises a straight tube 17 having a reduced upper end 18, said upper end beinginternally screw threaded, and the cutting blades 19 extending from the lower end ofv the tube 17. The cutting blades 19 have a triangular head 20 fitting edgewise against the end of the tube 17, and said head 20 con- Specification of Letters Patent.

The sides 21, 22 and 23 form a triangle which fits within the sides 10, 11 and 12 and which fits upon the flat faces 9 of the lugs 5, 6 and 7 and alines with the faces 13, 14 and 15. The cutting blade .27 is triangular and forms a continuation of the side 23. Thecutting edge 28 extends from the side 22 near the. junction of the side 22 with the side 23, and the cutting edge 29 extends from the side 21 near the junction of the side 21 with the side 23, and the blades forming the cutting edges 28 and 29 are formed integral along the corner 30 so as to make a long pointed cutting blade 31 which will out two sides of the desired opening.
The cutting edges 28 and 29 unite with the u per ends of the cutting edges of the blade 2 so that the blade 27 will form the other side of atriangular opening through which the head 20 will pass. Perforations 32 are formed through the sides 21, 22 and 2s. The 1 tube 17 fits closely in the bearing opening 4. The lugs 5, 6 and 7 will pass freely through the opening formed by the blade 19.
Referring to Fig. 4, when the cutter 16 is rotated to the proper position the cutting blades 19 will pass upwardly inside of the faces 10, 11 and 12 and-fit against the face 8.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the decanter base 33 is formed of sheet metal and has a neck portion 34 fitting slidingly upon the tube 17, a spring seat portion 35 extending outwardly from the lower end of the neck portion 34 to support the spring 36, an attaching portion 37 extendin outwardly from the spring seat 35 and perforated to receive the screws 38, and the housing portion 39 extending outwardly and downwardly from the attaching portion 37 A soft rubber gasket 40 is placed tightly upon the tube 17 against the plate 1, and the screws 38 are inserted through the attaching portion 37 and tapped into the openings 3. A chamber 41 is formed beween the spring seat 35 and the plate 1 for the gasket to move up and bearing face 42 adapted to-press upon the can top 43, and the outer edge 44 of the housing 39 is spun inwardly to grip the edge of-the gasket. The upper spring seat 45 extends outwardly from the sleeve 46. and the sleeve 46 fits rotatably upon the reduced upper end 18, and the spring seat 45 presses downwardly upon the spring 36.
' the faces 9 of the lugs 5, 6 and 7; and then the tube 17 may be rotated until the head 20 registers with the lugs 5, 6 and 7; and then the decanter is ready to be. removed from a canor to be inserted into a can, and: when the tube 17 is rotated the other way the head 20 will pass out of alinement with the lugs 5,6 and 7 and pass into the triangle formed by the faces 10, 11 and 12, and the tension of the spring 36 will draw the upper face of the head 20 tight up against the metal of the top 43; and then the decanter is ready for use. i
The decanting spout 50 has a hollow nipple 51 screwed down into the reduced end 18- of the tube 17, a stopper 52 fits the discharge end of the spout 50, a handle 53 extends from the stopper and is mounted upon a pivot 54 and operated by a spring 55 to hold the stopper closedr Arms 56 and '57 are secured to the upper face of the spring seat 45 and extend upwardly on opposite sides ,of the spout 50 and to a point above the handle 53, and a push plate 58 connects the upper ends of the arms 56 and 57, so that when it is desired to apply the decanter to a can the push plate 58 is pressed downwardly relative to the base 33, thereby moving the head 20 downwardly below the faces of the lugs 5, 6' and 7; and then the push plate 58 and arms 56 and 57 are rotated relative to the base 33 to brin the; cutting blades 19 into registration wit the lugs 5, 6 and 7; then the decanter is ready to be applied .to a can and is placed in position with the point 59 of the cutting blades 19 against the top 43; then a blow with the hand upon the push plate 58 will drive the cutting blades through the can top; then rotation of the upper part of the decanter relative to the can will bring the head 20 out of registration with the faces 13, 14 and 15 of the lugs 5, 6 and 7 and into registration with the faces 10, 11 and 12 and the expansion of the spring 36 will pull the head.- 20 tightly up against the metal of the can top; and then the can is ready to be decanted.
When the liquid is nearly exhausted from the can the last of the liquid will pass through the perforations 32.
Thus we have made a decanter for canned milk, syrup, and the like, which may be readily applied to the top of a can and used as a spout, and which may be readily removed from the empty can. I
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of our invention as base, and a handle for operating the cutter.

A decanter comprising a cutter bearing plate having a bearing opening and lugs extendlng downwardly around the bearing ,opening, a perforating cutter rotatably mounted through the bearing opening and having a head adapted to register with the lugs when turned one way and adapted to fit between the lugs when turned the other way, a decanter base rotatably mounted upon the cutter, a gasket between the decanter base and the cutter bearing plate, a spring seat upon the upper end of the cutter, a spring between the spring seat and the base, a andle for operating the cutter, and a spout mounted on the cutter.
3. A decanter comprising a cutter bearing plate having a bearing opening and lugs extending downwardly around the bearing opening, a perforating cutter rotatably mounted through the bearing opening and having a head adapted to register with the lugs when turned one way and adapted to fit between the lugs when turned the other way, a decanter base rotatably mounted upon the cutter, a gasket between the decanter base and the cutter bearing plate, a spring seat upon the upper end of the cutter, a sprlng between the spring seat and the base, a handle for operating the cutter, and a spout for the cutter having a thumb operated spring cover for its orifice.
