Be it known that I, AnoLri-r Gr. 'BAUER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Whitewater, in the county of Mesa, State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mining-Cars; and I do hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in-, vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. v

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 11 indicates a truck of any preferred construction having the wheels 12, said truck being employed for the purpose of conveying the cars to and from the tunnel before and after the blast and being preferably mounted on the tracks 13. The truck is provided centrally thereof with a turn-table construction consisting of a relatively stationary base member 14 having rotatably mounted thereon a bearing 15 extending transversely of the truck and provided with the upstanding ends 16 in which is mounted a pivot member 17. The cradle is received between the transverse strips 17 secured to the under side of the body bottom and spaced apart a distance greater than the width of the cradle. This wide spacingof the strips permits the rough placingof the body in the cradle afterwh-ich it is slid along until the strip 17 f atone side strikes the cradle, the latch mechanism when engaged serving to prefvent sliding movement of the body on the cradle in' the opposite direction.
The car body preferably comprises a bottom 22 having thesides 23 hinged thereto at 24. hen the car body is mounted inthe cradle 19 the sides are supported in their vertical positions .bymeans of the end sections'20 and in order to further support said sides the same are provided at their upper edges with" the-jhooks'25 engaged by chain sections 26 extending transversely of the top of thecar' and connected 'by the turn-buckle 27 which may be operated to draw the sides inwardly and thus -securely maintain 7 the same in their upright positions. The bottom 22 also has pivoted in one end thereof, as indicated at 28 the hinged end 29 of the car which is maintained in its upright position by the'construction illustrated in Fig. l5 wherein it will be seen that the end is provided with an angle iron 30 to which is secureda bracket 31 forming an opening 32 for receiving one end of a locking bolt 33, the outer end of which is hooked around the bar 34= carried by the adjacent side 23 of the body and extending through said outer end of th bolt 33 and the bar 34 is a locking pin 35 carried by a small chain 36 secured to said side 23. It will be apparent that by removing the pin 35 the locking bolt 33 may be extracted from its locking position and the end 29 swung about its pivot. The car is further provided with a V removable or detachable end 37 having a handle 38. The upper portion of the end 37 is provided with plates 37 from which project fingers 38 that engage with cleats 39 on the sides of the car body. The end 37 may be raised off of these cleats when it is desired to re move the end from the car body, but when .the, end is in use it rests between the cortrated in Fig. at, each having one extremity l0 secured against the outer face of the end 37 and the other extremity 4:1 booked and spaced from the face of the end. These hooks %1 receive behind them latch fingers 39 which are pivoted at their lower ends as shown at so. When these fingers are in vertical position as illustrated in Fig. 4, they serve to engage the keepers and hold the lower edge of the end 37 against movement either inwardly or outwardly of the car body, but when they are swung downwardly and out of position the end 87 is released at its lower edge portion.
In order to maintain the body of the car in a substantially horizontal position so that the same will not tilt about the pivot 1'7 when it is not desired to dump the con tents of the car, the truck 11 has pivoted thereto at 42 adjacent the hinged end 29, a latch 43 having an inturned end 44 adapted for engagement with a keeper 45 secured to the bottom 22, said latch being actuated to its operative and inoperative positions by means of a lever a6 also mounted upon the pivot and connected to the latch by a brace l7. When the extension 44 is in engagement with the catch 45 it will be apparent that the car will be held in a horizontal position. By lifting the lever 46 said extension as may be disengaged whereupon the car will be free to swing about the pivot 17 and by removing the end 37 of the car it will be apparent that the contents thereof may be readily dumped.

8. A mining car comprising a body portion including a bottom, sides hinged thereto, a removable end, a hinged endconnected to said bottom, flexible means connecting said sides whereby to releasably maintain the same in vertical closing positions, means for detachably securing the upper portion of the removable end to the sides and means for removably connecting the lower portion of th last named end with the bottom.
