Description

F. 8. LA BELLE. COMBINEDSLIDE LOOP AND LEATHER SHIELD. nrucmou FILED IAN-31.1919

Z3- Z0 gaze FREDERICK B. LA BELLE, 0E OKLAHOMA, 'oKL'AHoMA.
COMBINED SLIDE-LOOP AND LEATHER SHIELD.
Specification ofLettersPatent. Patented Dec. 9, 1919.
Application filed January 31, 1919; Serial No. 274,289;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. LA BELLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma, in the county of Okla homa and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Slide-Loops and Leather Shields, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention comprehends generally improvements in harness and more particularly has reference to an improved slide loop and leather shield.'
It is the primary aim and object of this invention to provide a device of the above mentioned character designed to be adJustably engaged on a piece of harness or the like and normally positioned near a fold or bead of the harness so as to act as a shield therefor against the action of a metal con necting ring which is also adapted to be engaged with the fold.
As an additional object of this inventlon :a device of the above mentioned character is provided wherein the component parts are novel in construction and so connectedthat the shield member acts to hold the double loop member in the proper position, in addition to protecting the harness.
More particularly the present lIIVBIItIOII consists in the provision of a device of the above mentioned character composed of two members one of which is formed from a' single piece of wire and bent to form a double loop adapted for sliding engagement with a piece of harness while the other is stamped from a single piece of metal and bent to form a retaining clip for the end portions of the wire which forms the loop while the outer portions are curved to form a shield for the harness.
Among the other aims and objects of this invention may be recited the provision of a device of the above mentioned character wherein the number of parts are comparatively few, the construction simple, the cost of production low and the efficiency high.
Other objects, as well as the nature, characteri'stic features and scope of this invention will be more readily apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying draw ngs, and pointed out in the claims, forming a part of this specification.
through the device at the connection between the loop and shield, and
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal central sectional View of the device.
Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views,
to indicate corresponding parts.
Referring now, more particularly, to the accompanying drawings there is provided the double loop member which is preferably formed from a single piece of wire the intermediate portion of which is bent into a substantially 8-shaped configuration to provide the loops 1 and 2 which are identical in shape while the terminal portions of the wire are bent and arranged in alinement and in closely spaced relation with the medial portion to form a journaling portion 3.
As intimated, improved means has been employed for holding and supporting the journaling portion 3 to consequently insure of the maintenance of the loops 1 and 2 in the proper position and in reducing this feature of the invention to practice, a combination clip and shield member 4 is employed and is preferably stamped from a single piece of sheet metal which is folded upon itself to provide a sleeve 5 in which the journaling portion 3 is positioned while the side portions 6 are arranged in contacting relation with each other and curved to provide a hook-like shield as shown at 7.
In use, it is preferred that the device be used or employed in conjunction with a pole strap designated 8 and positioned preferably near the fold or bend 9 thereof while the loops 1 and 2 are slidably arranged over the side portions 10 of the strap 8 so that the hook-like shield 7 will be arranged against the inner surface of the bend or fold 9, the arrangement being indicated in Fig. 1. A
metal connecting ring 11 is arranged in loose engagement with the folded portion of the strap 8 and is seated or engaged by the hooklike shield which serves to prevent awearing action by this ring on the strap 8 at the will serve to maintain the loops 1 and 2 in a proper or standing position.
It is believed in viewof the foregoing description that a further detailed description of the operationof the invention is en-.
tirely unnecessary. Likewise, it is believed that the advantages of the device will be readily apparent.
Still further embodiments of the invention than those herein especially defined may be resorted to as conditionsor preference may dictate, as may be in keeping with the hereto appended claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the character described including a double loop member formed from a single piece of wire, the intermediate portionotwhich is bentinto an 8-shaped form providing two loops while the terminal portions of the wire are arranged in alinement with each other, and a combined member forminga clip for retaining'the terminal portions together and a protecting shield for. the strap whichthe device is adapted to engage.
2. A deviceofthe character described including a double loop member formed from a single piece of wire, the intermediate portion of which is bent into an 8-shaped form providing two loops while the terminal portions of the wire are arranged in alinement with each other and in close relation to the medial portion between the loops, and'a combined member formed from a single piece of metal bent upon itself to form a sleeve in which the terminal portions of the wire are journaled and having the outer portions bent-to provide a hook-like shield for the strap-which the device-is ada'ptedvto engage.
Intestimony whereof I afiix my signature hereto.
FREDERICK B. LA BELLE.
