. fication and which is hereby made a part hereof, the figure is a view of an ordinary tank with parts cut away to show the tube for withdrawing gasolene from the tank, in combination with the device for forming a reserve supply in the tank.
In said drawing B represents a tank, C is a tube for withdrawing gasolene or other liquid from the tank having an outlet D. The tube C should be securely sealed at the top. In the drawing plate E serves that purpose. F is an intake opening at the bottom of tube C. This same object can be accomplished by leaving the bottom of the tube open and by cutting it such length that it will not touch the bottom of the tank.
is an auxiliary tube which extends ing the tube D until the through plate E and within the feed pipe C. Tube G should be opened at the lower end. and should not extend to the bottom of the tank, and shouldhave means for closat the top. Valve H is shown for that purpose. It will be noted that when suction is applied through pipe D the liquid in the tank will be fed through pipes C and level of the liquid is below the end of the pipe G, said level being indicated on the drawing as K. If the valve H is left open the liquid below this level will not enter suction pipes C and D as the suction will draw air through pipe G. By closing the valve H the Flow of air through pipe G is stopped and the remaining portion of the liquid in the tank can be withdrawn by suction as before.
I claim as new and ask for Letters Patent upon:
The combination of a tank, a suction pipe adapted to withdraw liquid from the tank,
and an auxiliary air pipe within the suction pipe adapted to admit pipe when the liquid is lower than a predetermined level within the tank, and means for closing the auxiliary pipe, substantially as described.
